So my family and I built our coop two and a half years ago... What is your best guess for the capacity to this baby? I want to convince them that we could totally add to our small flock of five hens!!!

What are you talking about? I would NEVER block of my daughter's half-bath with an old gate, throw straw in the bottom, and keep chicks in there for 6 weeks!!!

americanvalkyrie, If your hen is broody when you get the eggs, I will need to talk to you about buying some of them off you if that would be okay? I may want to come over if you do keep them!

If those eggs hatch, plus the 9 that are under my other broody and set to hatch in a week, I will definitely be interested in sharing. Do you have a broody right now, or did you just want the chicks?

They're black copper marans, the kind that lay the darkest eggs. SunnyDawn gave me some fertile eggs from her flock that weren't dark enough for her breeding program. I had one baby hatch last Wednesday, and she's a cutie!

Awwww, I might want to come over and check out your coop and things. Your next hatchling that you get I will probably be more interested in because our summer is so busy!

Sure, any time! These eggs are due to arrive Friday so I should set them on Saturday... which means they should hatch August 11th. Which will probably be easier on the chicks, since this last hatch was really rough on them in the heat.
