Nevadans?

Very nice potatoes! I can't wait to harvest mine. I was thinking it was the purple ones that look almost ready since they are an early variety, right?

The beets are Perfected Detroit from Gurney's.

Mine are the first to mature. My purple sun (purple outside, yellow inside) are maturing fairly early, too. The fingerlings look like they're going to be latest. What other variety of potato do you have planted?

Lacy Blues, I LOVE the feathering on the splash. I can't wait to add her to the flock and see how well her coloring complements everyone else. That's the artist in me talking... When one is missing, I can immediately tell because the color palette just isn't right. There's some buff missing... oh yeah, she's broody. Lol.

The andalusians are named Tapas and Paella.

OK I drank one glass last night and haven't gotten to the first one of the day, but there's a huge difference already. I don't even care if it's in my mind. The pain is so much less. The Atnica gel was helping, but I usually wake up hurting so bad until I rub it in. Still it's been really bad. If it works this good this time, I should be feeling good by tomorrow or tuesday. What an idiot to know it works and wait so long to even do it. That's how much the past 2 years has done me in. And if I hadn't done it before that, Bill would have asked me why I was waiting. Anyway, my shoulder isn't hot like it has been. Hurts, but I can live with this.
glad you're feeling better already. that reminds me, I need to get going on my ACV, too. My sinuses are bad again today.
Thanks for the book link, Kim. I'll definitely be checking that out! Right now I'm on my way to the store to pick up some pickling supplies. Here's my beet harvest.

I pulled the onion just to see how far along it was. Doesn't look like they are there yet. But my potatoes are definitely dying off like you said Missy. Oh, the yellow things are zucchini ends from last night's dinner - they'll be going out to the chickens soon. Here's some zukes I harvested yesterday.

looking good! my mouth is watering thinking about pickled beets.
I don't grow beets, so I immediately thought those dark bulbs were onions! I was going to demand what variety you planted! (What variety did you? Those are beautiful.)

After advising on potato harvest, I got a little overexcited about my own harvest. I dug up 5 plants, for almost 10lbs of potatoes. (3 of the plants did extremely well, but 3 grew up in "the strip" where I believe a friend's daughter got bored and sprayed some herbicide before planting.) The purple potatoes did extremely well. Good thing we already planned to have roasted potatoes for dinner, because I wasn't careful at ALL when I dug in there.

The really big purple ones are from the yellow potato plant I posted a picture of last night.

I stayed home from church today and had Russ teach my Sunday School class so I could get caught up on stuff. I still didn't get as much done as I wanted, but I made 12lbs of goatsmilk-oatmeal-honey soap in 5 fragrances. I've needed to make that for a couple of months, and wanted to get more in stock for the autumn/winter holidays. Finally!

The pears are suddenly almost all ripe. Tomorrow morning I'm going to show some friends how to can, but hopefully that won't take long. I've done one dehydrator load of pears overnight, but there are a at least 30lbs of perfect, beautiful pears sitting here that won't be that way for very long.
nice potatoes! sounds like you had a productive day. I got cleaning done and a bunch of cooking and folded and put away a million loads of laundry. we are good at washing and drying but not so prompt to fold and put away here.

OH MY GOSH! I got a picture to load! AT HOME! Now if I can get it to submit...

I was trying to load it and it was taking forever so I took a nap then woke up and was doing some other stuff for a couple of hours then came back in and saw the computer was asleep and the modem was too but when I got them back up I found this picture had loaded! YEA!!!

I was trying to load this pic from way back when we were talking about how Candy's babies were laying and that I needed to post a pic of her and Pam's birds and eggs. Now the pic is outdated cause I have a really dark green egg layer out there too. I'm confused about where this one came from though. Kim thought she had given me an OE but when those girls started laying quite awhile ago they were all brown.

This egg could be one of Pam's, from her EE roo and her RIR girl but the egg is so dark! A true OE which should have taken 2 generations to produce and should have required a marans of some type along the way. So Missy it looks like I may have an OE for you after all! We've just got to figure out who is laying this dark olive green egg. It's really gorgeous!

I was trying to get the pic to post all day and missed a bunch of posts.

Kim I am with ya on the gardening stuff this year. Hoping next year will be much better. And when I was a teen I was thrilled when I could get over 100 lbs but as soon as I let up trying the weight would fall off again. No I NEVER thought I was fat at 102! I knew I was too skinny. Just couldn't seem to do anything about it. No so anymore!

Folks ask me if I wished for those days back, that maybe I should've appreciated them more and I tell them NO! I've been underweight and I've been overweight and you can have the underweight side of that coin anyday! I never want to go back to being that unhealthy ever again! I am much healthier now than I ever dreamed of being back then, thank you very much!!!

Ron and Missy those veggies look awesome!!! Very cool!

Missy I need more soap again too! I know it hasn't been that long but I don't like Steve thinking he needs to use the cheap soap when he doesn't like it very much. The thin bars are harder to use though, will you have the regular bars available in 6 weeks? We need to stock up this time. The oatmeal w/ biscotti frangrance is what we both like. You can pm me price and stuff. Thanks

Elizabeth I hope your sinuses feel better soon. With the bad allergy season we are having plus the smoke from all the fires coming over the hills it's been a pretty bad year for many of us.

Sunny, this batch used just my leftover fragrances, so I have no biscotti. The straight almond scent is really good, but is missing that buttery sweet note. I made pumpkin pie, almond, black tea (nice and masculine), applejack peel, and a mix of almond/vanilla/chocolate espresso. The recipe is the same as the last batch, just different fragrances. I need to order more fragrance! And yes, this will be available in 6 weeks. I have a few other bars here, and one is goatsmilk, but not oatmeal or honey. And I have a few of my vegan recipe, which is just a standard moisturizing bath bar. I'll PM you price.

And I'm not so sure it's fair that I get an olive egger if you don't have one yet. Not that I'd turn one down... but yeah, fair is fair.

Elizabeth, sorry about your sinuses. I'm actually having sinus/allergy problems for the first time ever. I'm guessing it's something carried in the wind, and I'm hoping it's seasonal. It's not something I have time for.

I got some Braggs to use as a starter to make more vinegar. I guess I'll use it for my health, along with some local honey.

Well, looks like I get to stay home all day tomorrow and try to catch up on stuff. The friends who wanted to learn how to can had to reschedule. The pears aren't "very" ripe yet, but they're perfect for eating. So I might try to make the pear butter anyway, just because it's a solid day home. And a friend gave us a few extra gallons of milk and half-and-half, and I cultured it into yogurt yesterday, so tomorrow I'll make it into pineapple rum flavored frozen yogurt.

1. Ok, I'll take whatever I can get for now. The almond sounds fine. I like almond scented stuff. Hopefully I can get the other by Christmas? I sent you a pm.

2. Awwwww, thanks. I really love this dark egg but I can make more olive eggers from my marans and ameraucanas. Steve and I are going to put Mr. Friendly in the layer coop and use him for more OEs.

3. BTW I meant to ask you what kind of Ice cream maker did you get?

Purple Viking and one called Gold Rush. I can't find the descriptions of either one on their website (they must be out), but the Gold Rush is not a Yukon Gold, it is a variety of Russet.

Finished pickling the beets. The only snag I ran into was peeling them. I tried several methods and it just wasn't happening - it was taking so long I'd still be doing it. So I decided to just throw them in skins and all. I figure if the pickling doesn't make them soft enough to eat then I can peel them as I'm eating them. If anyone has any suggestions... ?

ETA: That egg picture is awesome Sunny! BTW it sounds like you might be feeling better eh?

Ron, you took them straight from your garden and pickled them the same day. I think they'll be just fine with the skins on. If you had purchased them from the store, it would be a totally different story. I don't peel my garden carrots or potatoes, either.

I grew Purple Viking this year, too. I got a couple of seed potatoes from Sunny, and planted them in feed sacks in April. They did great! And got rather large for being in feed sacks. These I harvested last night were Purple Majesty, which is deep purple all the way through. Of all that I bought, this one was the only one that isn't supposed to be good for long-term storage. Which is fine... we'll eat them up too fast! I didn't do any russets, but I did Yukon Gold and Yellow Finn. The area where I planted the Finns just isn't the best area anyway, and will probably need more soil amendments before it can be, so I don't think I can accurately judge that variety when I harvest it. I do have a couple of seeds in Garden #1, though, which is super good soil.
