Nevadans?

Lacy Blues, here's a picture of my andalusians yesterday:

Looks like they're growing nice. Is your splash growing more splashed feathers for you to enjoy? I hope you're happy with them.

I was going to write again the other day... I don't think you'll have to wait until they are ADULTS to let them out with the other girls... maybe only 4 or 5 months old.

OK I drank one glass last night and haven't gotten to the first one of the day, but there's a huge difference already. I don't even care if it's in my mind. The pain is so much less. The Atnica gel was helping, but I usually wake up hurting so bad until I rub it in. Still it's been really bad. If it works this good this time, I should be feeling good by tomorrow or tuesday. What an idiot to know it works and wait so long to even do it. That's how much the past 2 years has done me in. And if I hadn't done it before that, Bill would have asked me why I was waiting. Anyway, my shoulder isn't hot like it has been. Hurts, but I can live with this.

I'm glad you're feeling better. It's terrible to live in pain! I tried some ACV in water the other day but I think I put too much in. I may try it again.

You said it works on your fat when its cold. What does it work on when its hot?

When I was younger and wanted to use it for weight (I weighed 102 and thought I was fat) I drank it hot, because I was told the hot water worked better. I think maybe it did, but later learned to drink it cold, because I heard the cold worked better. Maybe it's just personal reference. LOL Hot I believe is for things like soar throats.

I found the book I had Bill read on the Braggs website. There's a lot of info on here too, although their books are more detailed and have so much more information.

Thanks for the book link, Kim. I'll definitely be checking that out! Right now I'm on my way to the store to pick up some pickling supplies. Here's my beet harvest.

I pulled the onion just to see how far along it was. Doesn't look like they are there yet. But my potatoes are definitely dying off like you said Missy. Oh, the yellow things are zucchini ends from last night's dinner - they'll be going out to the chickens soon. Here's some zukes I harvested yesterday.

I don't grow beets, so I immediately thought those dark bulbs were onions! I was going to demand what variety you planted! (What variety did you? Those are beautiful.)

After advising on potato harvest, I got a little overexcited about my own harvest. I dug up 5 plants, for almost 10lbs of potatoes. (3 of the plants did extremely well, but 3 grew up in "the strip" where I believe a friend's daughter got bored and sprayed some herbicide before planting.) The purple potatoes did extremely well. Good thing we already planned to have roasted potatoes for dinner, because I wasn't careful at ALL when I dug in there.

The really big purple ones are from the yellow potato plant I posted a picture of last night.

I stayed home from church today and had Russ teach my Sunday School class so I could get caught up on stuff. I still didn't get as much done as I wanted, but I made 12lbs of goatsmilk-oatmeal-honey soap in 5 fragrances. I've needed to make that for a couple of months, and wanted to get more in stock for the autumn/winter holidays. Finally!

The pears are suddenly almost all ripe. Tomorrow morning I'm going to show some friends how to can, but hopefully that won't take long. I've done one dehydrator load of pears overnight, but there are a at least 30lbs of perfect, beautiful pears sitting here that won't be that way for very long.

I read one article that advised waiting one week after the potato plant is completely dead, not watering at all during that week. But it's ok to eat them at any time before, as long as you don't eat any green parts that have been sticking up in the sun.

After digging, don't wash the potatoes unless you're going to use them immediately, and don't throw them around because they bruise easily before they're cured. Use any that you accidentally sliced with the shovel in a nice family meal that week. Let the others dry in the sun for no longer than an hour, and in that time most of the extra dirt will fall off. Then "cure" them in a warm, dry environment for a week, like in a paper bag in your garage. This dries out the skin so they'll keep longer and not rot as they sit against each other in storage. Store in a cool, dark place NOT in the same closet as onions. Apparently the onions release a certain gas that can spoil potatoes faster.

My potatoes and winter squash are going in the same dark closet. My onions are going in the canning room, but we've used over half of them up in my home canning recipes anyway, so they won't last long enough to sprout!

ETA: I was just on YouTube, watching videos on harvesting potatoes, when I heard a rooster crowing. My heart plummeted. I turned the video off and listened again, but just heard one of my hens laying outside. Then I turned the video back to the point I heard the rooster. I had to play the video a couple of times to be sure the rooster was really on the video! That was good audio!

Send some of those pickled beets my way. Since my mom died I'm the last in my family that loves them.

My garden died this summer. My front lawn although babied got taken over by bermuda grass. I usually have a very green thumb, but not since Bill died. I did get roses started though and I'm waiting for 3 of my plants to finish off some flowers to get more cuttings. Even the roses didn't do as good as usual, but I do have 9 yellow (gave 2 away) and 4 red going. The white ones I bought were so skimpy and they've just started really bushing out, so I'll have lots to work with.

I have a raised bed in the back. I was going to put up another, but haven't had the time or energy. If I don't get to it, oh well, but I'm adding hoops on this one at least and see what I can get to grow for winter. If I get nothing, I haven't done any worse than this summer. I did get one tomatoe out of 5 plants and my cherrie tomatoes were enough for me. The kids don't eat them anyway. I have a bunch of seeds that I haven't been able to find, so silly me, I see them on sale and I buy more. We have to buy pumpkins for Halloween since the birds destroyed those. At least this year I tried to get back into it. Maybe next time I'll actually get something I can work with. Something I've really never done was can. I used to have a plumb tree with the BEST plumbs I ever had and one year I filled 9 big yard bags. I never made so much jam in my life as that year, plus I gave plumbs away anfd all the kids were home back then, so they ate them too. Oh, and a litter of Rottie pups. That was pleasant to clean up after. But I haven't made anything else but pickled green beans, marinated artichokes and some other pickles, but I made them in the fridge and they went so fast it would have been a waste of time to go through the whole process anyway. I have a couple of dehydrator in storage and those used to be going almost as much as my incubators do now. LOL I always envied my cousins since they live close to my ggrandmother and all learned to can. My grandma was the best.

Funny about the rooster crowing. I fall for that at times when I open multiple windows and something goes off. Roosters, dogs, cats, babies and sirens are usually what I get. LOL
