Nevadans?

the kids and i will be at the show and meet at carrow's. should be a fun time.
I'll be there with Sahara, but mostly just to look around and say hi to everyone. We intend to meet at Carrow's too. Might bring the husband... depends on how he feels. You know, the dual-partnership marriage type of thing where you don't assume that you can make someone's decisions for him.

Elizabeth, did the flu hit your family yet? It hit ours early this week. Boom boom boom! It's so contagious! You wake up feeling great, and within 2 hours are off your feet. And our area isn't even one of the ones that's supposed to be majorly infected. I guess it is now.
We are fine here, thankfully. the kids are off track right now so that helps reduce exposure. I hope we don't get it. yuck!
Hi Elizabeth! The job is great. I'm very happy there. I do work tons of hours but they're happy hours.
that's good!
November 17th at 9am at the Livestock Event Center on Wells. We will go from there to Carrows to nosh and gab.

It hit here. I was down Monday evening through part of Wednesday with it.

Short lived but it really knocked me out for those 2 days. By Thursday I felt good as new again but now my poor Dad has it. :( He is feeling better today though.
hope your dad recovers quickly!
I will be there but I'm not bringing any entries. My daughter is bringing a few. I will have some birds for sale... blue leghorn bantams, black leghorn bantams and a couple pairs of buckeye bantams.
good luck to your daughter!

Now I must have purple yams!!! I mean sweet potatoes. What market did you get them at? OK Sunny, calm down, you can't start them this time of year. Thanks to Dee I am picturing these gorgeous, purple, sweet potato fries!!!!! YU-UH-MMY!

Half of the Asian markets in town have them, but I can pretty much guarantee to find them there (and appropriately labeled) at 168 Asian Market on the intersection of S. Virginia and Gentry. It's an old Kragen building, on the same intersection as a Wendy's, a 7-11, and the old Famous Murphy's. At the back of the store there's a produce section, and I usually find them in a box at the very right. They have a taupe skin, and are about the shape of any other yam... sometimes smaller or rounder, depending on the crop. And if you break one open, you'll see that the inside looks like lavender tye-dye. They're not horribly expensive, either. I cook them like any other yam. Usually I just fork them, butter the skins, and wrap them in foil.

BTW at the same store I can find a HUGE bag of fresh Thai basil for $1.99.

Yeah that was it for me. It hit hard and fast. I wasn't off my feet for more than 24 hours, so it wasn't as bad as I thought. I think the schools are mostly freaking out because it's so contagious. My daughter woke up 8am Monday saying she felt tired, and by 10:30 I was picking her up from school. Within 24 hours of that, she was back to eating normally.

I'm going to be at the show. Bringing entries. What time are you all going to meet at Carrows? Just whenever you get there or are we all going to agree on a time so we can meet each other?

I'm sure we'll meet at a certain time. We just haven't decided. (Have we? If we did, I missed it.) What do you think... 11am? My family will have enough of an agenda going on that a set meet time will be pretty crucial.

Thanks Elizabeth! He says he feels fine now but his voice, which is normally very low, is like Lurch low right now. He was so proud that today he was able to hit one of the lowest notes ever recorded (at least during his time in Radio and it was by J.D. Sumner). lol He does sound scary low voiced right now.

Glad your family has avoided the stuff so far.

Haha. Steve and I drove by there today and I wondered if they had the purple sweet potatoes at that store. What does the Thai basil taste like compared to Sweet or Italian basil?
Checked it out but I didn't know where to start or what to do. Not a techy here but looks like it might be fun if I get time to mess around with it.

Glad to hear it didn't keep any of you down for long!

Anytime works for us as long as we know ahead of time so I can plan for it. I can't stay on my feet very long so we will hit the show about a half hour to an hour before we meet at Carrows.

No we didn't decide but 11am works fine for us.

Ron thanks for showing us the chicken fortress etc. Love your property! It has a beautiful view and the pics I'd seen on here never showed the beauty of it well. See ya next weekend if all goes well.

It's definitely stronger and more fibrous than sweet basil, with just a touch more anise flavor. You wouldn't want to use it in a caprese style dish, where it would be eaten as big raw leaves. And if you eat it raw, like in a spring roll, you'll want to chop it and make sure it's just an accent to other flavors. Perfect for adding to cooked foods, though. This is the kind they use in Vietnamese Pho Bac soups, and Thai curries, at the very end, to give it that distinctive flavor.

When I buy it, we hardly ever use all of it up. Now that I have these dehydrators sitting on my counter, I should just take the extras and dry them out. Or hang them in the kitchen. There would be so much flavor dried to add to chicken soup in the winter.

Hmm, I think we'll stick to the sweet basil then. Not crazy about some of the Italian basils even. Too strong for us. Neither Steve or I are big on strong flavors. Well I guess that's not entirely true. Just depends on the dish I suppose.

My understanding was we were going to Carrow's once the show as over, I could be wrong but I thought it was said earlier? There are several people who won't be able to meet up because they are showing their flock. I think everything is done by 4pm but I can't really remember from last year?

I love the Italian basil the most. For some unknown reason anything else just does not taste good.
