Give them coffee! It will be easier to kill them!Hahahaha! Well only to cute little critters...not so much to grouchy coffee snobs first thing in the AM.![]()
Oh jeez! You saw one?!!!Sunny, I have 3 of your old flock and they sure do go after those mice. I still have mice though, saw one last night in the chicken run.
Exactly! Chicken feed is apparently addictive to rodents and rabbits. It's the downside of keeping outdoor birds. Unfortunately, anywhere you have chicken food you have put out a nice supply of mice kibble....just the smell of all that nice grain product will bring them in. I found that even when I had my grain and whatnot in metal garbage cans that I still had rodents in the feed room. Argggh!
Good luck!
p.s.
I'm not saying that rodents aren't around, per se. But when my neighbors had chickens suddenly we were seeing chipmunks and little furry things all over the tops of the walls..... Not so much now that the birds are gone.
Yeah don't bring them up this way!!!I know there have always been mice but right now there are too many in the coop, so we need to thin the herd.
The humane traps are little boxes that trap the mouse and are reusable. The mouse goes in but can't come out. Too small for the chickens to get messed up in. We can take these traps every other day out into the desert and release them.
I did not realize what a treasure those mousers were! I hope my old neighbor that made me get rid of my chickens is overrun with mice right now! hahaha!I have some of her old flock too and they are quite efficient mousers! The only place mice are able to get into my runs is where the run door is. I put concrete blocks there and traps where there are any gaps just in case the little buggers get by. Haven't seen any in the traps since winter started and I've never seen any evidence of them in my coops.![]()
Will do! I saw that you won them and wondered where the pics were.Give them coffee! It will be easier to kill them!![]()
Ok, sorry. Just wanted you guys to visit the California thread and check out the Sussex I won on Saturday and read about MY day. I love my new roo! Hen too, but my guy is not going to take anything from anyone.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Those I would take somewhere and let go. Mice and rats, no way. Mot dumping those disease ridden thinsg off for someone else to have to deal with. Someone on FB posted a video of 2 guys releasing a mouse and it got swooped up by a hawk. They thought I'd be upset. Nope, I posted it cause I thought it was great. They turned that thing loose in a park! Nasty! Two days later they showed the video on the Today Show. I'm sorry, but if it wasn't raised as a pet I can no longer deal with them. I got them here right after I moved in and found some in Bill's dresser when I went to look at things a while after he died. Won't say what I did with them, but I was humane. Sorta. I was much softer years ago. We had white footed mice in Michigan when I was in the 7th grade. My teacher in 3rd or 4th grade had read us this cute story about them, so I would feed them every night when I was cleaning the kitchen or cooking. My mom finally caught me and said "So that's why they don't touch the bait!" She loved telling people about that.I think the only thing Aubrey can have killed are raccoons.
I was just giving you a hard time and yes those masked bandits are mean, vicious little creatures. I can't kill anything either, but I do work around it and have someone else do it when I can. Heck I need someone to come to my neighborhood and catch and process all the roos coming in my yard to eat the food I buy for my birds and hunt down all these eveil little Chihuahuas and their mixed. Maybe I can feed them to the birds! LOLNo way coons are just as diseased and filthy as mice only difference is they're meaner and nastier and want to KILL my pets. I'd honestly never kill one myself and prefer to take preventative measures but if it ever came down to it and I watched one carrying off my babies you bet your butt I'd kill it! Then I'd feel terrible about it! I can't kill mice. I can't kill anything. It's not my place to. And that is just who I am. We let the eight mice go the other day up past keystone hiking trails and its a good spot for em. That's my plan and its what's happening.
LOL!!!!Hahahaha! Well only to cute little critters...not so much to grouchy coffee snobs first thing in the AM.![]()
