I ordered bantams from them.. 12 total... I received 13 packing peanuts, 25 chicks total... TWO were female. Waste of money if you can't get sexed. All were very healthy and none died thoughI'd like to know the opinion on ideal hatchery for layers?

Is anyone on this thread close to south Lake Tahoe ? I've been off for a few years ...
Starting up a new flock and would like to get back in touch.
Quote: OMG, I'm in love, love, love with this little puff ball! We're these chicks bred to be small or was she just a fluke? Oh, and welcome to the thread. I'm from Northern CA but love my peeps here!
I can't remember if I shared here that I got a Brinsea Octagon 20 incubator with the humidity pump (and turner of course), for my birthday!!!! After my experience a few years ago with the Little Giant (good hatch but required constant monitoring, around the clock during lockdown), I swore I would never hatch again! I started breeding Polish and EE's a couple of years ago with broodies, last year I had 5 and sold some of the chicks and I started getting people who want chicks this year. I realized that if I wanted to sell some chicks and actually work on my breeding program, I really couldn't manage it reasonably with broodies so this year I told my husband I wanted an incubator. He said fine but get a good one! He said he didn't want to see me going through what I did with the last one, he wanted me to enjoy it. What a guy...no wonder I've kept him around all these years!I have 9 eggs that candled postive for me hope it works out!!![]()
What are you all hatching,if you are going to? I hope to hatch more when i get eggs from my bantam SLW pairI was hemming and hawing about the extra money on the humidity pump but after talking with Sunny and others that felt the same hesitance to spending so much money on an incubator and my husband said just get it, I spent the money. I have to say that every time I hear that little thing turn to adjust the humidity I giggle! I'm so tickled that I have nothing to do! I can't wait to see what type of hatch rate I get!![]()
Here's a picture of the eggs I set. After help from Ron and Chickee, I was able to fit 25 eggs. My first layout I only fit 19!
5 Blue Copper Marans (these will be Olive Eggers because I only have an Ameraucana roo) I plan on getting chicks from Sunny but am looking for an adult Black Copper Marans from a nice dark egg so I can hatch pure Marans sooner! Soooo addicted to this dark egg!
4 Polish - Various colors
16 Easter Eggers
I know what you're saying. We've been DIYer's all our lives. Come from a family of builders, we've built our own houses, barns, coops, retaining walls, ponds, etc! But we're getting to the point in our lives when we're considering that maybe we can't just do it all anymore and maybe we should defer some of the heavy lifting. Hope you find someone reliable, I know that's a whole issue on it's own.We thought about "DIY" landscape but feel its too overwhelming for the size we have.....We would be working on it forever!!! Definitely need someone to get us started and then we could probably take it from there!
Quote: My husband and kids are Kickapoo. We have to laugh about the name of the tribe, it's not bad enough our last name is Funk! I would like to learn more about the tribe. My husband is only 1/4 but I'd like the kids and grandkids to know about their heritage.
Awe, she looks so grown up~ I played the clarinet too!
