Nevadans?

Here is a few...my phones camera is not that good though.

My horse likes to watch them...and yes this one part of the fence isn't very adequate, we fixed it... (all other 3 sides of the fence are 6 feet+ tall)

The girls enjoying a bowl of oatmeal!

I am surprised, when I was researching bantams I didn't think they laid so many eggs. I have 6, and I usually get at least 4 a day.
what kind are they?

Hello all! I'm in Sparks, just joined BYC and introduced myself in the new members forum. Is anyone here familiar with the Sparks ordinances on chicken keeping? Thanks!

Idk :/ but the person I got my bantams from was in sparks. They had a lot of them, I'm guessing a few dozen. And I know their neighbors had them too. They lived in a pretty residential area too.

I've heard conflicting things about chickens in Sparks, so I tried to look it up. I found an article from 2011 where a resident was trying to get the laws changed to allow chickens in Sparks, but couldn't find anything after that. And I found a municipal code that prohibits them in all but a few zones, stating that they also have to be on an acre of land. But that was written in 2004. If anyone finds anything current, I'd like to know as well, since I'm trying to put it on a website I'm working on.

Sheryl you sure have been through it this month!!! You poor thing! I've never read anything that says chicken mites can feed off humans. Usually lice are specific to one type of animal. It sounds more like bedbugs to me. Let us know what the expert says.

IDK on Sparks regs but we have plenty of folks on here from there. Hopefully they can answer you. Welcome! :)

I have been busy with family, so I haven't been on in a few days. When I did check in I saw your post. What is wrong with Silver Springs...why do you think you have to apologize for us.  We have lived out here for 15 years and love it very much. We have lots of friends that have been out here about as long as we have and all love it. We live out by the lake and have 5 acres of heaven. If you don't like it or have to apologize for it....why did you move here. :idunno  Well Welcome to BYC and the Nevadans anyway. You will find we are all like a little family here. Hope you enjoy us.

Aw she was just kidding. Like folks from Reno saying "Reno isn't hell but you can see Sparks from there." We don't hate Reno or Sparks. It's just a joke.

Thanks Sunny for the advice on what I should do with my Barred Rocks....I think it would be to hard for me. My husband is so frustrated that I think he could almost cull them. I know a person out here that takes chickens if you can't keep them anymore. If I do anything I would give them to them...at least I won't see what they do with them. I have also noticed if I put things in their run for them to do they forget about pecking. I am going to clean my yard from the winter, so I will throw things in their run and let them play. I put a few things the other day and it worked....so here goes my yard clippings. :yesss:

Good luck! I know we are all curious if a cure can be found. So sorry you are having to go through this!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELIZABETH!!!
I wish my phone let me enlarge the font and change colors.

Anyway hope you had a great day and I hope this coming year is kinder to you health wise! :)

Ok, I finally found something. I don't know anything about Sparks' zoning codes, but hopefully you know what zone you live in. This looks like you're allowed to have up to 12, if you live in district R1-40. It also says you need to have an acre of land, but I'm not sure if that's for all livestock including chickens.

Section 20.29.040 Location of livestock.
A. Livestock used for
production and commercial purposes may be kept only in the
agricultural districts, A-5 and A-40, of the
City.

B. Livestock used for
recreational purposes may be kept only in the agricultural
districts, A-5 and A-40, and residential district, R1-40, of the
City, subject to the following restrictions:

1. The minimum size of the
lot on which livestock used for recreational purposes must be at
least one acre;

2. No more than one head of
livestock may be maintained per twenty thousand square feet of land
area;

3. The keeping of poultry
and large fowl or birds is limited to no more than twelve per acre
of property;

C. Other than as provided
above, it is unlawful to keep livestock for any purpose in any
other zoning district of the City.

ETA: A year or so ago, my daughter and I had a conversation about the legality of chickens in Sparks. (She's 11 years old.) She was staying at her dad's house and heard roosters, and was about to tell on someone. I mentioned that someone could lose some really loved animals if she did that, and often it was just kind to look the other way and close your window to the rooster crowing if it's not hurting anyone. Luckily the conversation didn't go further into the morals of right and wrong. She understood that some things aren't worth getting technical over if it means that someone could lose their beloved pets. Hopefully this isn't an issue for you at all! I think, even if they aren't legal there, most of your neighbors won't even know that. They're so common in Reno that hopefully people will just assume it's the same all over Sparks.

Laid up with a stretched ligament right now. It was snowing pretty good up here Monday morning and the puppies had dug a hole in their pen right in front of the gate that Steve had filled in with cement blocks... Well apparently they dug a new hole next to the old one and the snow covered it perfectly. Yep down I went, scraping my ankle on the way down against those concrete blocks til I hit bottom full force, twisting it as I hit. Never saw it coming and I went down so hard and fast there was no time to grab anything or react at all.

I'm not allowed to put weight on it for a few days but I can hobble around a bit with crutches. I've decided crutches were a lot more fun when I was a kid and weighed 60lbs. It's a lot harder to pull myself around on them now. :/. I won't be on them long though. These kind of things always heal pretty fast for me. Just hard to be take care of critters with them,

OK, done whining. How's everybody else doing?

Yeah, I found that article too. I've been busy with work so haven't had much time to research. Thanks!

I'm thinking that's NOT us. May have to do some wheedling with City Hall. But like I said, been busy with work...but I'm not going to do anything remotely against code - too much chance of getting reported and it's just not right. Thanks!
