Nevadans?

Yes, and you know, I was just looking at all the eggs from today...and I have an extra "chocolate" egg. I found an egg the other night between nesting boxes, but it was super chalky colored. Now, looking at that one and the extra dark egg...I'm kind of thinking maybe both girls are laying. One, being the speckled egg, and the other one darker. I'll snap a picture in the morning. Tricky girls. I should have 6 dark, but there are 7 today....... I'd stalk the coop more, but it's hot as heck lately. We've been over 100' for a week here and have topped out so far at 111'. Yuck!!!

Pic I took earlier of today's basket:

(The extra Marans egg would be the smallest......????)
Odd that they would lay such a light egg

All of mine have started out a darker chocolate color and some have lightened over the laying cycle. One does lay a lighter speckled egg after months of laying.

The smallest would be the new layers. Hard to tell from your picture. Is the smallest egg bottom middle next to the two blue eggs? That would more like the color mine lay.
Yuck! That is hot! We have been close to 100 with cloud cover and high humidity that has made it almost unbearable!

We were supposed to get isolated thunder showers last night but didn't.

Here are the two new ones. :) I had a broody GCM so unless the speckled one is hers, then those are the new GCM layers. I doubt it's my older girl, hers were bigger and a pretty rust color. I'll watch today. Hopefully we really get those afternoon showers they've been talking about for the last couple days. We need water!

It will be interesting to see who is laying those eggs.

The two GCM pullets I kept will be 12 weeks old this coming Friday and they are really big! I think they will be bigger than their mother! Hope they lay a dark egg like she does!

How many GCM hens do you have now? You aren't thinning out the GCMs right?? I love them. We have Bud and Buck, the two GCM boys from you in a seperate pen with most of the OE and Ameraucana pullets but when they see us head over to the big girl pen they walk right beside us to greet their girls. It's hilarious. They can't wait to see them every morning. Since we don't have a predator issue and the pens are so close to the house we haven't been locking their pens at night. They are literally 20 feet from our bedroom, so they get out super early and have to wait for the big girls to be let out. When they all get moved into the new pens it'll be an adjustment for them all to be locked in more often. Especially as fall, and the hawks, are arriving.

If you guys ever do the Cabelas day trip again, let me know. I'd love more GCM eggs. I want more Sunny eggs too. Her BCMs are the nicest I've seen in a long time and look awesome with your girls.

I only have the 4 GCM hens, their 3 babies (2 pullets, 1 cockerel) my main GCM rooster and his son. The son is super laid back and hangs out close to me when I go into the pen. I just love the roosters! I have all the chickens in together right now, so I can't promise the GCM eggs are pure and not OE. I am pretty sure the GCM rooster doesn't let the Ameraucana rooster mate his girls. I will probably be coming up to Truckee soon.

I wouldn't mind having some eggs from Sunny's BCM either! Great color! You don't happen to have an extra BCM rooster you want to re-home? My brother is looking for one.

No extra roosters, (how is that possible!?) just down to the one BCM boy and he's a keeper. Very sweet. Took a lot to whittle down to the roosters we have now. BCM, 2 GCM, 3 sizzles/silkies, 4 Ameraucanas, ...then the next couple hatches that need to grow out more so we can pick through the boys.

Kmollyhughes, do you have pics of your Ameraucauna Roosters? I'm hoping to find a white or blue Ameraucauna Roo to breed with my Lavendar Ameraucauna, but I already have my crazy-splash Pretty Boy Roo so I don't want another rooster permanently.

I only have W/BW boys. None that are just blue or white. We got rid of our last two blues a couple months ago because they were super aggressive with our girls. :/

Isn't that crazy that my brother can't find a BCM rooster?! I did send him Papa Brooders way to buy some BCM chicks though. He has a few hens and was hoping to find an adult rooster to breed them to and hatch their eggs.

I had a close call with one of my 2 eleven week old GCM pullets today! She got stuck in the hole of a concrete block that was in their pen and was overheated, red, swollen face, weak and panting!

If I hadn't gone out to take some pictures of my chicks she could have died!! Never had that happen before!

Here are some of the pictures I took.

Poor girl! Look at her face! Sure glad she is ok!!

Blue partridge Silkie chicks~

White Silkie hen that is thinking about going broody~

My lavender Silkie hen~

Poor girl! I bet she fought hard for as long as she could. Like toddlers, aren't they? Always where they shouldn't be. lol Lucky you found her!

Love the blue partridge silkies! They are so neat looking! I don't have any lavender birds....must resist. Must resist!!! As long as PapaBrooder lays off the Orpington auctions...ha!

And the khaki color is so different. Very pretty!
