No problem! I really didn't need another BO anyway. Feel free to come by to see Genny's birds if you'd like.

Thank you 4hens4us and NevadaRon! Yes it is in the Livestock Events Center on Saturday from 9am til they wrap things up. It's open Friday but just for exhibitors to set up. I did call those numbers you posted and got ahold of a gal named Cathy(sp?). She said that judging starts at 9am but they are open earlier for set up. She didn't give me a close time, she said it depends on how fast they get through everything. They try to get done as soon as possible cause they have a lot to do once the show's over (they have to leave it in pristine shape to get their deposit back). She said they hope to finish up by 5pm maybe even earlier.
I plan to go sometime between 11 and 1. She said they will have quite a few birds for sale but usually just domestic standards since that is the show's focus. I was hoping to get another marans or two but they are not an accepted american standard, just french right now (although she said it looks like they will be accepted here soon). Maybe I can get a blue Ameraucana pullet. That's the other thing on my wish list.
Here's the pics I promised. The 3 on the bottom are EE eggs, the next 2 up are my Wheaton ameraucanas and the 2 on top are from my latest layers, (tah dah...*drumroll*) my black ameraucanas!!! Yes they are finally laying (they are 30 weeks old)!!! Yay! These are the two I got from you Genny, the girl I already had is still not laying.
Carol EEs can lay any color of egg but a mix of my EEs and my black roo should produce an egg layer that lays somewhere in between the top and bottom colors. A mix of my wheaton gals and my black am roo would produce pullets (well hopefully pullets) that would lay an egg anywhere between the middle and top colored eggs. Both would be considered EEs since black ams mixed with wheaton ams are not an accepted variety.

Yea, I am hoping for the same thing! The accepted varieties are Black, Blue, Blue Wheaten, Brown Red, Buff, Silver, Wheaten & White. Many folks are working hard to get lavenders accepted into the American standard breeds as well and it looks like it will happen soon. I've already printed out the standards for the breed since so many folks sell EEs as ameraucanas and I want to be careful about what I buy. Oh I so hope they have Blue Ams for sale!
Sunny - what beautiful eggs! I think I would be most interested in your wheaton gal/black roo chicks. What do the hens look like? Can you post a pic?
Are you going to try to get some stock to produce those gorgeous drk chocolate eggs? I would be interested in those too.
I think I can only add 2 more to my flock though. Ideally, I would like one of each but if that is not possible I would take a couple of the first ones.

I hope to but right now I haven't the space for another roo. I'm trying to rearrange things as soon as we finish the remodeling project here. We would take too big a hit if we tried to sell it unfinished. Unfortunately my back is not cooperating and it looks like some of these projects will be put off for awhile longer.
I might be able to borrow a roo to get a few fertile eggs or maybe we could go in together on a shipment of marans. Any one else interested in splitting an order of marans? I had hoped to travel down to LV this spring and get some but no one has answered my requests so far...
Yes here are pics of my wheaton gals (sorry the one is overexposed)... These were taken about 2 weeks ago.
Here are my boys...
Who knows what the chicks will come out looking like? But the eggs they lay will be pretty. For prettier chicks I would go with the Pure Ams. Although the mixed ones should be hardier.
I really would like to go to the show on Sunday. Depending on how busy it is around here I will most likely go just to see what they have. I always love seeing the different birds.
Garlic Update: I cut back on the amount, instead of doing a 3% ratio I cut it down to 2 tsp in the babies food and once the adult girls feed runs out I will probably cut them back to a 1% solution. I did not have much of a smell outside anyway but now I have none and the garlic is definitely not that noticeable outside but the chicken smell is completely gone.
Yesterday afternoon when I left literally only for an hour the first batch of baby chicks (the GLW & BA) started picking at each other. They picked one of the hens super bad and she is in a separate crate which is making her REALLY ticked off but with bone exposed I cannot put her in with anyone. I have no idea what caused them to start this in just an hour. They have plenty of room to run around in, outside, plenty of food, water, things to keep them occupied. It is just driving me nuts trying to figure it out. My Dad is teasing me that chicken tastes good to everyone and everything.
I have bag balm on everyone that was even slightly picked. Maybe a mouthful of that will keep them from doing it again. I guess it is time to break out the blood meal.
They spent their first night in the chicken coop last night. We finally got most of it finished and all of the brooding area finished. The kids have taken off with my camera but as soon as I find it I will post a few pictures. I just checked on them about 10 mins ago and they are all doing great and no picking since last night either. We are going to pick up a few of these today to put on the other side for heat for the little babies and see how it goes tonight with them out there. I am going to relocate the big girls in there today after I build their ramp.
Well the dogs have been fed are again content so I am headed back to bed for another hour before the boys get up. When your children no longer take naps and they are way too young to be left alone while you nap, any bit of sleep helps. *LOL*
