Cool, you're even closer. How are your chickens handling the cold?

They seem to be fine so far. I need to put the heat lamp up out in the coop and figure out away to keep the duc warm cuz I only have one heat lamp and even if I had a second one I could'nt get it to the duck house cuz there is noway to attach a heat lamp to the house. How are your chickens doing?
What part of reno are you in?

I'm in the northwest part of town. Not too far from downtown. Though as soon as the housing market picks up some we need to get a place outside of town, our critters are getting a bit crowded in our small back yard.
Our girls are doing well, though they are not laying as heavily as they were during the warm weather. We have a small bulb hung up for them right now. Although from what I read in the BYC newsletter, that is probably a mistake since I have 20 hens in an 8x10 coop. They said that chickens produce so much body heat that they don't need extra heat from a bulb unless it gets below 0 degrees. So I am weaning them off the extra heat slowly (setting the timer for a little less each day) so that the change will not be too shocking for them. Right now the light goes on for the coldest times of the day only (3am-7am). Guess I've been spoiling them.

Most of my girls are laying now they barley started and I got 11 eggs out of 16 girls todat.

oohh nice!!!
can you have them call my girls and tell them how it's done???
i'm getting sporadic 2-3 a day out of 7 that are within a week in age... not to mention the 4 banty's born in june.. the BR that were from july are safe from the glare that is served to these slackers... but i have a random RIR mix of some sort that we have no clue on an age and she hasn't laid... i'm wondering if i have an egg eater in the banty/RIR coop???

lol.. i'm really hoping that isn't what's happening... i let the RIR out to freerange today... and i was going to leave her out of that pen all together.. but then she went to the cage i quaranteed her in.. and that is now the official "cool spot" to lay..... so i don't want her sleeping in there and getting the nest all dirty.. i put her back in the coop.. i'm goingto let her out again first thing in the am... i figure if i do this for a week or so i'll know if she's the culprit.. or if they're just not laying yet...

i'm hoping they're just not laying yet... but really wish they'd hurry up and start...
