Nevadans?

During the winter, we keep the house at 67 during the day - ok I keep it at 67 cause I cannot stand the propane bill (DH would keep it warmer) - but I wear tshirt and sweatshirt plus have a blanket for the couch/tv watching.

Summer I keep the house at a cool and breezy 79 and it is oh so nice - should it start feeling too cold inside, I pop outside for a bit.

Hurry up warm weather!

68???? I'd be thrilled with that in the winter! It's a good thing we spend most of the daylight hours at work so we turn the house down to 58 from 7AM until 5PM. When we're home at 5PM the heat goes up to 62, then back down to 58 at 9PM until DH takes his shower at 6AM. He gets a toasty 60! And in the summer we don't even touch the AC until it's at least 80 in the house. We take advantage of the evening breezes to cool off the house. And then shut it up tight and pull heavy drapes across the south windows during the day to keep the heat out. A few more trees in the back yard (south) should help the summer AC bills soon.

I thought today, Tuesday, was a perfect weather day. It was warm enough in the sun to be working on our chain link trenching project, a bit sweaty, but the breeze felt good. Can we just have about 6 months of days like today, pleeeeeeeesssse?????

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Must... have... heat! Soon!

I've already done a lot of research on Reno so let me double check my info and I'll fill in the form then.

Hope the form has space to put down that city code is nowhere near as strict as these horrid neighborhood CC&Rs that stop most folks from livin' the life!

They do though.

Ditto that. And they get to be HUGE after a bit. I received a couple in the "Meat Birds Special" from the hatchery. I let them go long and called them "Thunder Chickens." They are slow growing (insert the price of many bags of feed here), but hefty. Dressed out at 12-15 lbs. Gave one oven-ready to my sister. "How am I supposed to cook THAT?" "Like a turkey." Fed her family of four for days....

Sorry if yours are pets, Evonne. They are nice birds, though. Should be renamed "Jersey Gentle Giants."

AWESOME! It is great how willing people are to contribute to the BYC community. Meanwhile, I have tons of cities to verify...off I go!

i didn't see the scale, but i saw the bird, the guy said his roo hit about 30lbs on the scale.. he was huge!!!!
the guys did a demo on how to um... dress and whatnot a bird.... interesting.. nt nearly as involved as you would think....
i'm not even sure if i'm keeping htem at this point.. we'll see... but yeah..... the 2 birds he had with im seemed incredibly sweet... i hatched 3 and ne mystery bird out of the 4 eggs i got from him... so i'll hope it's 2 girls and a boy... and mystery is... i have no clue... she's LF, yellow down, and sparse feathers on her legs.... i need to call the guy nd see what else he has, but i coulda swore he only had black giants.....

Hello Nevada!
woot.gif

Just a reminder that there are still lots of towns and cities right here in Nevada up for grabs in the BYC Chicken L.O.R.E. Project!

This is a massive undertaking, and everyone is encouraged to participate! Your knowledge of Chicken L.O.R.E. will earn you GFM Scratch, which are good towards new GFM Memberships, Membership extensions, or Membership gifts.

Remember - you don't have to select a city in Nevada - cruise the selection list and choose any city still available!

Get started now! Click on the Chicken L.O.R.E. link above for all the details, and remember your Project Managers are here to help in any way we can.

Good Luck, and Thanx for Joining In!

Well, it is to late to save me now. My Serama eggs arrived about 45 minutes ago. My kids had them all unwrapped and I ran by the house for about 10 minutes. I ordered 12 and they shipped 14. I found one that had a spider web of cracks on one side. I will have to wait til I get home at 1:30 to give every egg a final inspection and candling. they are resting for now on my kitchen counter setting point down in a bath towel. Being watched like a hawk by the three adults in my household. Even my wife is starting to get excited. She didn't get excited when we bought our house.

Oh BTW thanks for adding Reno to the Chicken Law list. I will go as far as say thanks to SunnyDawn I am fairly certain if you did not do it your where going to.

Well it is not looking good for these eggs. I knew when I ordered them that they are small and more fragile than other eggs. But it is a definite dead on 7 of 14. an not real encouraging maybe on 6 of the other 7 and only 1 out of the entire clutch looks like it maybe okay. I will set them anyway and see what I have in seven days. I started out to order just 6 eggs but expected 50% loss. But 97% damaged from shipping. The packing could have been better as no bubble wrap was used. guess I need to refine my requirements on how eggs are packaged. I may try again with specific directions on how to wrap them and see if I get better results. good thing i go them on a special price that one egg cost $30. At the very best I could stand to end up with as many as 7 though so keep fingers crossed.
