Yea Peep_Show has been the rep for all the folks in the south lately but they add a lot to this thread too when they aren't too busy.

What kind and how many chickens do you have?

I'll add your name to the opening post now.

Sheryl, I have been making a list of seeds I want to get. Of course, I'd need several acres to grow all that! I will have to narrow it down and order realistically. What kind of pumpkins did you grow last year? It seemed like they did very well. any pumpkin growing tips? I'm thinking I may have to grow pumpkins in my front yard which gets sun all day.

I took a good look at my chickens last night and see that the barred rocks' combs and wattles are all getting red. wonder if they will be the first to lay?

I also saw poop on the high roosts this morning so I guess a few of them have ventured up there on their own. I'm going to do some rearranging of the heat lamps and baby roosts to make room for the nest boxes. I stopped and got more bedding and a bale of straw at green's on my way in to work so I can clean out the coop. With them being in there 24/7, it's getting a bit stinky. You should see my little car loaded to the gills. Jose made some more progress on some of the post holes yesterday. Hopefully he can get a little more done today. I'm itching to get that run done before it snows. I'm assuming we do have some sort of winter coming at some point, right?

OMG! SherylReno I am on the corner of Washington and F. You can see a little of St. Mary's in the Mountains (behind my roo) in my avatar.
Also, I do know your MIL renters I gave them a few chicks last spring.

I have Buff Orpingtons, New Hampshire Reds, Crested Polish and Cochins.

Elizabeth - We grew the pumpkins from the seeds of a pumpkin we bought in 2010 because it was the best pumpkin I've ever cooked with. I have extra seeds if you want any?

SagebrushMama - I had a feeling! What a small world. We go up there all of the time to clean our grandparents grave and such. Check on the house, look at those wonderful chickens they have. How great is that, you are just 2 streets away. Ah, is your house the one with the front porch facing St. Mary's? I don't know how long you've lived there but I do remember people who lived there that was raising black labs, is that you? If it is then we've said hi when we went for our walks there when my DH's grandparent's were alive.

I moved up here in April of 2010. Then had to move out because we had to replace ALL of the plumbing in and out, and redo nearly all of the electrical wiring. Then moved back in a month later. No, we don't have Black labs just one chicken herding Jack Russell. See below.

I love living up here! And yes, my house is the one facing the church.

Elizabeth, you don't really need to do anything with pumpkins. Just get your dirt ready with chicken manure and you can also use other soil stuff that contains bat stuff and worm casings. You want the manure to be in the ground for a bit before you plant your seeds so don't use brand new chicken manure it might be too harsh on the seeds.
