don't be sad for your chicks - we noticed. It is just that not all of us have goats any more, so it is super nice to see pics of such cuties.

evonne -- hope the move goes smooth

Those are such cute goats!! wow.
Hey everyone!! the chickes are all doing good.i got some silkies in the mix, and they are awesome. I was worried though because thought they had to stay outof the weather when is bad, but theyre out in the lovely nevada snow and rain mre than the other chicks, and happy as can be.

Looking for a bit of Reno Specific advice. Do you all let your chickens out all year round? I really want to let these two out in the run but don't want them to get cold. So basicaly how are you set up to let the birds have some freedom of running around and still having a warm place to go if they need it.

Me too. I'll have to get Evonne to take a look on gender, I hear that she is pretty good at it. It wouldn't take much to be better than me. The colors so far vary from light to dark blue, blue wheaton, black, and 1 almost looks white to me.

Good night all. Thanks again for the compliments.

hhmmm how old are they now??? if they're more than 3-4 weeks i should be able to tell you for sure, but before that i'm just guessing.. in fact at 3-4 weeks i could still be wrong.. lol.. i'll have some time sat morning to stop over for a few... hubby is doing the volunteer firefighter training... i know he wanted to get back into emt and has always wanted to do fire, and a small town volunteer is perfect for him... makes for a less stressful version of the job he used to love... so at the county fair i just happened to shove him towards the firefighters booth and said "talk to them" lol... and just happens he can jump into this training session and not be too far behind...

So happy the new babies are doing so well!
ke_ben your chicks are gorgeous! I'm much more partial to chickens than goats but even I have to admit that those goats are very' adorable!

Penturner, good luck with the new serama pair and good luck with this latest hatch! I just wonder about the humidity in your brooder. From what I hear too much humidity is responsible for more hatch failures than anything else. Many folks recommend a high humidity for lock down but I've been reading a lot of info lately that says this is a mistake and that folks have had much better hatch rates when they reduce their humidity by quite a bit. I don't know, I'm not a hatching expert but I thought you might want to research this a little. Here's one link.

Love all the pics everybody! Today I will try to get pics of all the chicks I have (big and small). It could take a while, I went a little nuts this season considering I live on a tiny lot.

Good luck all!

Wow, What a change in weather yesterday was. I had to drive to Tahoe yesterday morning and it took 3 hours round trip due tot he fog and icy roads. By 2 in the afternoon I was running around int he back yard in my bare feet and a t-shirt. Put the pair out in the run for the first time and left them until almost 8 o'clock last night. They pretty much stayed to one corner but did pretty well. I hope to get a small 8 foot square coop built for them today and as long as the weather stays above freezing let them live in the outdoor area.
The Hen has not layed again after that first egg. I am not sure how long to expect her to be put off laying but I am sure the changing locations to often is not doing her good. She has been used to roaming during the day so there little 2X4 foot cage they are in all day is probably not encouraging her much.
Hope everyone has a wonderful and toasty warm weekend.
