Nevadans?

Horsefeathers, best of luck in exacting revenge. Give it an extra kick for me will ya. As for the wind. We did just fine. I have all my birds in my shop. very quiet and peaceful in there. they could here the stronger gusts but nothing that got them upset. I was really worried about power outages though since I have 21 eggs in the incubator at day 9 right now. Three more in storage from Heilo. She is pretty steady with an egg every other day.
Well it is 04:30 so I am off to work. nice thing about that is I am eating lunch when most people are just getting to work he he. great day to all.

Penturner you didn't lose power Tuesday? I think you're one of the few in this area that didn't. My power was out from 7am to almost 5pm. I had to bundle up all my chicks and take them to a friend's house where they could be kept warm! They are fine though and no worse for wear.

Vegaschick glad the chicks are OK!

Surehatch thanks for the offer. I'll keep you in mind for the next hatching season. Although I've had great luck with the dry hatch method (modified slightly for our arid area), as long as I don't use shipped eggs.

Still it's nice to have a resource for questions that come up.

HorseFeatherz good luck handling that varmint. Good news! 3 of the 5 chicks I got from you are pullets! Yeah!
wee.gif
Two or three of the BC marans I got at the same time are also pullets. 1 is still iffy, the hackle feathers say roo but the underdeveloped comb and wattles say pullet and her leg size is right in between the others.
roll.png
No saddle feathers to speak of either. I've heard many marans' owners say they thought they had a roo for sure 'til he laid an egg!

So I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer. A couple of these 3 month olds are trying to crow (a silly "erk" then choking sound at this stage but I can't seem to catch them in the act once I head out there.

Here's pics of my motley crew of young'uns (starting with the youngest)...
This is before I made the delivery of the ameraucanas.

And here's the older teens. Some are BC Marans and others are the Blue Orp w/? crosses and the EEs from Horsefeathers. What are the BlueO crosses again Genny?

Orp/Del crosses and Orp/EE crosses.

I love that last picture

Here are some from the most recent hatch - black chicks are the black Orpingtons from BamaChicken - the rest from my coop. Did have a cross beak chick hatch - I have since put it down - research did not prove homeful or pleasant for it.

Now to figure out the why and what I will do.

Have had two more Orp/Dels hatch and another Black Orpington is pipping.

What is with this crazy weather? Anyone seen this before in Reno - my neighbour who has been here over 27 years says she has never know April to be so snowy. Snowed all day, on/off here - none stuck but at time we were in a white out.

I know! This weather is driving me nuts! What happened to global warming? I don't think Reno got the memo.

Thanks for the reminder on the crosses. The silver with dark lacing sure is pretty!

Those babies are sooo adorable!!! Are they as fluffy as they look? Looks like they are double stuffed with fluff.

I see. Yes, we had to build an entire back yard for my chickens, 22' x 40' x 6' tall with a screened top so the coyote & birds of prey could not get to them. So they are all safe and sound even outside.

I don't take many pictures but here are the ones I took of my chicks.

The first is are the EEs I hatched at the beginning of this month

I also picked up a few Welsh Harlies so our lone duck would be lonely no more.

And finally I also ordered some Polish chickens. Some are buff the others are Golden.
I just love the little top knots they have even at only a day old.

Me too! Horsefeatherz gets to take responsibility for those. They are growing up to be gorgeous birds. I can't wait to see what they look like once they are all filled out.

Humbrd your EEs look just like mine! I wonder if they are from the same hatchery? And those little polish are just too cute for words!!!

You must post pics more often. We love to see each other's birds!
