Penturner you didn't lose power Tuesday? I think you're one of the few in this area that didn't. My power was out from 7am to almost 5pm. I had to bundle up all my chicks and take them to a friend's house where they could be kept warm! They are fine though and no worse for wear.
Vegaschick glad the chicks are OK!
Surehatch thanks for the offer. I'll keep you in mind for the next hatching season. Although I've had great luck with the dry hatch method (modified slightly for our arid area), as long as I don't use shipped eggs.
Still it's nice to have a resource for questions that come up.
HorseFeatherz good luck handling that varmint. Good news! 3 of the 5 chicks I got from you are pullets! Yeah!
Two or three of the BC marans I got at the same time are also pullets. 1 is still iffy, the hackle feathers say roo but the underdeveloped comb and wattles say pullet and her leg size is right in between the others.
No saddle feathers to speak of either. I've heard many marans' owners say they thought they had a roo for sure 'til he laid an egg!
So I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer. A couple of these 3 month olds are trying to crow (a silly "erk" then choking sound at this stage but I can't seem to catch them in the act once I head out there.
Here's pics of my motley crew of young'uns (starting with the youngest)...
This is before I made the delivery of the ameraucanas.
Here's most of mine (not all felt like posing)
Here's the gawky pre-teens...
A cuckoo marans
One of the EEs (weird feather curling going on here)
A welsumer
Group shot (there are 8 pullets total in this brooder that were born around March 1st, EEs, Welsumers and Cuckoo Marans)
And here's the older teens. Some are BC Marans and others are the Blue Orp w/? crosses and the EEs from Horsefeathers. What are the BlueO crosses again Genny?
Ok. This one's my favorite.
