two mille fleur leghorns (you know, cuz i wanted a large white layer but they "had to" g together..."

It's hopeless Aubrey, there's nothing we can do to cure you. Now if you ever need to get rid of a marans or OE perhaps I can help you at a later time?
sheryl's right, you are a hopeless case, aubrey.

oh yeah! I also wanted to show you guys what me and mark did. We covered the ENTIRE backyard in hay, hahaha. Theres a methd to our madness! Its completely helped with the mud. The mud us and the dog track into the house and the mud the girls track into the coop. It has been working VERY well and the girls seem to like it a lot. I left under the deck alone though because theres tons of little buggies under there for the girls to eat.
we havent even had to wipe Elvis's feet after potty breaks for the past few days. its been awesome.

and hell, it looks better than dirt.

it looks good! our whole yard is very muddy now. I'm going to have to reseed some grass I think on the soccer field portion of our yard. soccer playing is about as hard on grass as chickens are.

If you want to give it a try, start collecting buckets before all of the other gardeners get excited. If you go to the north entrance of Whole Foods, by the coffee bar, you might see a stack of white plastic buckets beside the green shopping baskets. These are free to take. Sometimes I ask the barista anyway, just to be sure. You will need 2 matching buckets per planter, so keep collecting even if you think you have enough.

I keep bugging my husband to do his Whole Foods runs, since he works a couple of blocks from there. In April or May, all the other gardeners will key in to the free source, and you might have a hard time finding some.
My niece works as the bakery manager at al-Mart. Most people don't know this, but Wal-Mart sells the used buckets from the bakery. Not free, but they are a bargain at $1 for a 5-gallon bucket!

You may have to ask a manager 'cause most of the employees don't know about it, either. I'll ask her what the SKU # is and post it here for you all.

Aubrey, sounds good I will be here Sunday. On another note,my mom did the same thing with hay in her yard and it worked for winter, but come spring when it gets warm if you dont pick it up you will get massive flies. All my moms neighbors were complaining because she attracted so many flies. She lived on Caliente st downtown.

I'm hoping to get some advice here before my shopping trip. My husband has just been asked to go to Manila for a month to train on the systems over there. I'm excited for him, but it looks like he'll be gone Valentine's Day. And I haven't made him a "date night" meal in a long time. So here's what I'm wondering...

Entree:
Swordfish sticks broiled in a panko/lemon/parsley crust, paired with a daikon/shallot/fresh dill tartar sauce
OR
Coconut-crusted shrimp and scallops with a sweet chili/horseradish cocktail sauce, with chopped fresh chiles
(This one will probably depend on what's cheapest)

Salad:
Spring mix or wild greens topped with a cilantro/meyer lemon/fresh raspberry balsamic

Bread:
From-scratch garlic sticks using a rich egg bread recipe and fresh garlic
OR
Polenta slices drizzled with a garlic butter herb sauce

Sparkling white grape juice, since neither of us drink.

Dessert:
(Here's where I really need help deciding. It needs to be mostly from scratch.)
Sorbet made from fresh pineapple and limes
OR
Cheesecake topped with homemade caramel
OR
Flan with freshly whipped cream and a couple raspberries

Panna cotta would be good, too, but I've never made that. Or flan, for that matter.
Which do you think would go best?

thanks for the advice. Ill definitely toss it in spring then. It is probably better anyhow since the dirt is so nice in the spring and summer to dust bathe in :D
