Nevadans?

OMG, SunnyDawn....... Marans and Lavendar Orps are on my DREAM LIST. I didn't think I'd be able to find any around here. When you say "later in the season", what timeframe are you thinking? I think we might be in business! Thanks! - Mary

Those aren't hard to find around here. LOL Sunny has some nice dark layers too. She'll hook you up!

Just took a pic of the eggs I'm setting tonight and wanted to post and when I put them on my laptop they don't even look like what I have in the flat! It sucks!!!!! No lavender eggs so far, but I have 3 of Big Bird's eggs going in, so I hope she supplies me with more of them this year. I need a camera, or to try and remember how to use some of my old ones.

This getting old stuff also sucks.....

Oh good! I love my marans. The orps are big birds and really pretty too. Their eggs aren't as pretty but they make up for it as eye candy and they are such great layers. I will start hatching the end of March but I have folks waiting for chicks already so the beginning of April would be best. :)

I sure hope your lavender egg project is successful. I know it takes time but I sure would love some of those. Yes you are lucky living in an area with so many great breeders close by. It is sooo hard to find breeders in Nevada. All of my marans have come from other states. I got lucky with the orps when I got them from Gitlost cause she had to pare down her breeds.

My young'uns are finally laying!!! Ignore the TJ eggs. They're just there for comparison. These are marans, orp and cochin eggs.

Nothing from the Sussex yet. I really hope she starts laying soon. I want to hatch out enough to keep a few, sell some and process some. I've only have a couple of Speckled Sussex hens several years ago and didn't realize they are such fast growers. Amazing. I figure if I hatch out as many roos as usual, I'll have enough to process early on. Or at least have someone do it for me.

Those Games came back and did damage this time to the roo. I want those birds so bad I can taste it. The hen is missing and the one roo that hangs out front, every single day is still here. I think 4 things could have happened. One, someone else caught her. Two, she finally moved on to one of the loose flocks. Three, she's sitting on a nest, but I think she would come looking for food. Four, a whole new group of dogs has been added to the regular pack and they were out all day and night yesterday and I haven't seen her since. The rooster that's been around for about a week was out in the yard all day looking for her.

This is the new girl you just won? That stinks!!! :(

GASP!!!!!!!!!!! :drool

Thanks! I know, I was excited to see such dark first eggs. They may get lighter but they could also get darker. 2 of the eggs are too light but they have beautiful stippling. I hope those darken up! I sure didn't hatch any eggs that light. They will make great eating eggs if they don't. :)

Here are the cakes I made. They were fun to make and came out pretty good. I'm horrible at doing the lettering but oh well.
