Nevadans?

I wanted to share pics of Steve the lil rooster. He is going through juvenile moult right now and the new feathers coming in are absolutely GORGEOUS. He is half golden cuckoo Marans and half silkie. Gorgeous mahagony barring. Can't wait to see how he turns out!

Thanks all. The Mom thing has been a long sloggy progression that has been just miz for those of us in the present. I must say that Mom probably isn't aware of a lot of stuff....In fact, she's having some pretty adventurous hallucinations set, oh, about twelve years back. And she sleeps, I'd say, more than any snoozy cat I've ever known. Probably a good 20+ hours a day or so..

I still have SO MUCH to learn with the lampworking. My mentor fled the state to Prescott AZ after a lesson or two, so I have been pretty much trial by error since. Got some books and discovered that, yes, I was going about a lot of stuff backwards. I'm looking forward to April when the Glassworks Expo is here in Las Vegas. I'm signed up for four days of classes....one of which is on making little figurines and whatnot (like bugs, fish, birds.....chickens!). A project I want to do is replicate my Fortune Hens strand (cloth folk art) in glass, but with different breeds of birds and little eggs as spacer beads. (It'll probably weigh a lot as my present strand is over 4 feet long and draped over the pantry doorframe) You know, red ones for RI's, white with black head for sussex, white for leghorns, gold w/black for buff brahmas, etc. How many chicken breeds are there???? (Will probably use the BYC breed chart for reference....) It's a fun looking-forward-to-doing-it project.

Is anyone doing the Easter hatchalong?

Ooooo, he's such a cutie! Can't wait to see what he looks like at 18 months. :)

She fled the state? What on earth did you do to her?

I will be expecting chicks around Easter but I have not joined the Easter Hatch thread. It was crazy last year and it got to be a real headache just trying to keep up with it. I'm gonna pass on the craziness this year.

OK I am finally getting around to creating a Breeder's page. If anyone wants to be added to the list or has a Breeder they have used and liked a lot please list the name here.

Include breeds and varieties offered as well as when you offer them and whether you ship what you offer or not. So you can see the format I'm using click here.

I've only got my info in right now but hopefully I'll get a lot of feedback soon to add to it. Please check your spelling carefully since I'll be copying and pasting the info in and I don't want to have to edit it.

I would love to add Breeders from the surrounding states as well. Let's face it... Nevada is slim pickins when it comes to quality Breeders. Actually for Breeders period! So if we can include Breeders from CA, OR, ID, UT and AZ that would be awesome. To tell you the truth I'd drive further than that for something I really wanted.

LOL! Touche! Not one of my better-worded sentences..... She actually was already looking for someplace with less heat and more trees and I think less people (she's a PTSD person and kind of nervous about a lot of stuff....if she were a horse we'd say VERY high strung, e.g., occasionally-scrape-her-off-the-ceiling high strung). I think my paying for lessons facilitated her move as she was taking a road trip to scout out living quarters shortly thereafter. The studio is still here in LV until the end of the month, so I'm getting in as much bead time as I can as her business partner in the same space is there and packing up stuff. Luckily one of the other ousted studio residents is setting up a studio where I can find torch time. (Truth be told, I have enough stuff except for a kiln -- to be purchased in April at the Expo -- and an oxygen concentrator that I can set up my own studio in our casita....but I'm kind of saving that space for storing the family furniture before our move as I'd hate to have to pay $$ each month for a storage unit... cheaper and less of a hassle just to buy studio time until I can set up a dedicated permanent space in some artsy corner of NM.)

I don't think there is anywhere within 200 miles that could do a necropsy :/ if the silkies I have dont make it, I'm open for pretty much any bantam. This is so depressing :(
My heart aches for you, gurl. Don't give up! We had some very disappointing and heart wrenching things happen when we first started raising chickens in fall of 2011. But we pressed on, researched a lot, got connected to others with OCD (obsessive chicken disease) lol - and have a very healthy and happy flock now. You can, too!

Another one of my white silkies (4wks) seems less energetic tonight... At this point I'm expecting the worst :/

If anyone you breed silkies or Easter egger bantams, I may be interested in purchasing and picking them up in the near future.. It even any mareks vaccinated bantam hens.

Sorry about your chickie!

I do have 3 little bantams that I picked up as company for a single hatched chick here. Well, he doesn't need their company anymore and I was thinking I would just cull them. But if you want them you can have them.

Two are roosters.

One is barred all over and half silkie, I think.
One is an EE bantam. He's black with some gold here and there on his wings and hackles.
One is a little girl... she's a blue half silkie. I don't know what her other half is. She's as cute as can be.

If you have a friend or yourself coming through Fallon one of these days fairly soon, I could meet you in town and just hand them off to you.
