Nevadans?

Yes, I noticed the similarity too. Did you check my web site? I have adult photos there. Why some turn out white and others brown, I don't know.

I just did. It's so interesting how different the EEs look. I just got some pure Ameraucanas from John Blehm the president of the Ameraucana Breeders Club and am planning to breed a roo from this bunch to my other hens so I can get more EEs. Mostly I have blacks but hope to get a pullet from each of the 2 wheatons and the 2 silvers I have as well. Then I'll have all different colors of eggs from my girls.

I've tossed around the idea of pure Americanas too but for the moment I decided to go with the Polish and Barnevelders. I may try for real Americanas next since everyone really loves the colored eggs even better than the browns.

hey penturner, i looked at your byc page, anddo you still want feather samples? when my chickens are older i can collect some for you.

Urg. This sucks so bad. about 10 of my chickens were killed by a dog.

Right now i think im kinda in shock. You know that moment when you randomly start crying like an hour after it happens? That will probably come on soon. I have to burry them in the morning. Dad wont let me go do it now cause its so late. I cant believe it happened. You know the kicker tho? It was my moms dumb ass dog. I dont want to seem too upset because she would feel way guilty.

She already was crying and tellin me she was sorry, then tied willow up and smacked her with a dead chicken, but still. I still just cant believe it. I cansee chicken death when coyotes get them. I'll even throw and old egg-eater out once in a while when the pups arre out and the food scarce. i never get too upset over animals getting them. it just happens sometimes. They need to eattoo, but this is Drat!. willow gets fed twice a day. she didnt need to kill me chickens. i dont understand why she would go and do it. Shes always around them alone and has never done this. i never even had a reason not to trust her. geez. She even got my favorite little dutch chick, stoner.

I have four new chicks today. kinda wierd to get them now, but they are here. We went to Reno Rock to get prices and they had chicks in. I didnt even know they sold chicks, but there was a kid in there. Tall as heck too. I guess he works there, but he was on break. He was standing by the chicken tub looking into it all intense like. we naturally went up to look at the chicks and he told us there was a sick dark one that had been being stepped on that morning, but he couldnt find it. poor guy. he was pretty upset. he explained how he didnt even know anything about them and the people up front didnt really care. he kept gettng the weak ones and hand feeding them and giving them bits of water on their beaks. But anyway i told him what to do with them. he put four weak ones in a small box. He didnt ask us outright to take the chicks, but when we were trying to explain to dad later why we had four extra chickens, it really seemed that way. The chicks are very weak, but recovering. So i guess it all kinda coms to a full circle. Some of mine die, but i save some others from being maulled by the other 200 in the box. I think its rather amazing that some unrelated teenager was so worried about a little day old chicks' life when he could have just as easily turned a blind eye to it like his co-worker. Instead he was in there during his break trying to take care of an animal he clearly had no clue about. See? There are small time heros out there.

Anyway, I think i'll post some pictures if no one minds. Maybe it'll help, a little.

Barnevelder is the only breed I don't have yet that I've always wanted. I'm holding out for the purer breed because I'm in love with those chocolate brown eggs! I got some welsumers this season but they are hatchery birds so I probably will not get very dark eggs from them. Oh well I can't afford to spend too much on birds. Since I'm not breeding them or showing them.
For now my only purebreds are my ameraucanas. I love the fluffy cheeks! They are only 2 weeks old right now. The blue eggs will be a real treat. The EEs should give me even more color variety with their green eggs (hopefully). Most of my layers lay the very dark brown eggs. I just love a variety of colors in a carton so the mix is for my own enjoyment.

Gitlost80 and Flowers of Abba, are you still around? I got carried away with too many birds this season and have to thin the flock a little (I should thin it a lot but I'm having a hard time parting with any of them!). Do either of you still want a couple of black ameraucanas? All together I have 47 birds right now and I need to keep it at 25! 4 of my older chicks are roos and they will be culled, the in-betweeners were all bought as pullets and assuming half of my Ameraucanas are boys that still leaves me with 37 birds.

Oops! No wonder DH is getting nervous.

You two were next on my waiting list for ameraucanas but I still have 1 more person on that list if you no longer want them.

Lacey, I'm so sorry to hear about your chicks! Not that strange for a dog to suddenly kill a chicken even when they've been fine for quite a while. I hear of it all the time. I knew I couldn't trust my dog but DH made an error that cost me a bunch of chickens a little while back too. It is very sweet of you to try and put a brave face on so as not to upset your Mom! You sound like an awesome daughter! I have a few chickens from Reno Rock too but you are right they know nothing about chickens and don't care to learn. It's nice to hear that at least 1 employee there cares about them!

So I cant find my 'chicks' memory card. I love taking pictures, and i probably have about 800 pics on there. So this is one of my 'random stuff' memory cards.
