Howdy to all of the new folks! And to all of the regulars as well.
We have been super busy with yardwork, getting the garden ready for planting and butchering roosters. I only have 3 left to do and it cannot happen fast enough. These RIR roosters are mean as snakes. They killed one of my white leghorn hens, literally ripped her back off of the bone. I figured if I lowered the population they would calm down but they have just got more vicious. With the weather the way it's been we had to postpone finishing off the last 3 roos but one way or another they are going to be gone this weekend. I do not care if I have to stand out in the worst weather I am not going to lose one more hen or one of my good roosters to them. They started picking on Oscar's (my BA rooster) tail feathers yesterday.
I have 12 more eggs on set right now. One of my BO hens went uber broody two weeks ago so I decided to take advantage of it. We need to fill up the freezer for the winter and crossbreeds are definitely useful for that.
We have not been able to get the new pens setup yet but hopefully in the next couple of weeks we will be able to get it done and I can start hatching out purebreds. I have a few requests already for polish and BO chicks, now if the wind and rain will let up long enough for us to get the pens up I can get to work on that.
Nice turkeys btw, I was thinking of picking up a couple of them myself but until I get the new house up and running I cannot really add turkeys or any other birds to the mix.
Great pictures Sunny, makes me homesick for lush green surroundings that is for sure. I am glad you all had a wonderful time.
Well I am off for now, I hope all is going well with everyone else.
