Nevadans?

Today's epiphany:
You know you're a hardcore gardener when you find yourself saying, "Save the poop! I can reuse that!"

I know what you mean. I pick stuff out of the garbage for composting and for the chickens when my less vigilant family members just toss it.

Sheryl and Seth, Rikoshe actually joined the Nevada thread before you two did so not a newbie but sweet of you 2 to welcome Rikoshe to the thread. Remember if you are not sure you can always go to the first post to see if their name is already there.

OMG! I'd be upset if someone tried to throw my chicken poop away! I tell my husband that it's "garden gold". He knows better than to throw chicken poop away! He still looked at me sideways, when he was breaking up the aged compost the other day, and I took a deep breath and said "ah the smell of super healthy veggies".

Congrats on the Hubby coming home!!!

So I guess we won't be hearing from you for a while.

Welcome back Rikoshe, good to see you again! I have two Black Am roos but I am keeping both of them. But a friend is incubating 32 eggs for me and I'm sure some of them will be roos - all will be Black Am x something, but I do have two Black Am hens so there is a possibility of a pure Black am roo, and I have a lot of EE's so there will undoubtedly be some Black Am x EE roos.

I'm hatching Lav's so with my luck there will be plenty of roos around soon. I think I have some due Easter??? Oh no I don't. I broke every one of those. I forgot. I did just set some yesterday though.

Aw, thank you Missy. I'm getting better day by day. I know there won't be an issue if you have a boy for a little while if you only get 1 girl but ducks are not like chickens, you can bring in the new ones to your existing ducks and they'll accept them. Chickens are not the same at all.

I had a great laugh today, John saw the big huge racoon this morning and I must say, NO WONDER IT LOOKED MORE LIKE A CAT - IT IS A HUGE CAT!

It's the size of my dog just not as long as her. We must have new neighbors or something. We do have racoons just not as big as I thought we did. Whew.

I have 14 eggs in the incubator now, I put them in this morning. Let's hope for a great hatch!

I did the hygrometer test last night and all is good there, thermometer is working very well too. Aubrey is loaning me her incubator earlier this time to help with this hatch. I'm hoping it's a still air for lockdown because I believe the fan was the issue with the last hatch not letting the humidity go up enough for hatching.

Took little flock members outside a couple of hours ago. It was so nice. Lacey and Amanda had to sunbathe as soon as they felt the sun. The ducks came over and watched them intently. They kept bobbing their heads up and down like they new these are our new members of the flock and it's okay. We made sure the newbies didn't go into the flock area and no one in the flock could get to them. It was so cute.

Biggest raccoon I ever saw was on my kid's great great aunts fence in Berkeley. I had a my Akita nd GSD's in the yard and they were going nuts. I saw that think that was as big as my dogs and didn't even think when I ran for the dogs. Later aunt Corrine says "Girl, you and those dogs could have been eatten by that thing!" I swear I have never seen one as big anywhere else and I've seen a ton of raccoons.

I know what you mean Kim, I've seen these huge racoons on the internet so I guess I figured it was one of them. The way it was walking though made it look like a cat, I was thinking bobcat but a huge house cat can do a lot of damage as well.

Oh I forgot to mention, I have a broody right now. It's Wynnie one of my SLW's. I'm calling her henzilla. I'm thinking of putting some duck eggs under her later if she continues this. I was wondering how the ducks would do having her sitting on one of the nests they like to lay in and today I found out. Justin the drake started chasing and hissing at Sylvia another SLW and started pulling her wing. Bella and Monique got involved and made him stop but as soon as he saw Sylvia he would chase her again. John said perhaps he's doing this because of Wynnie sitting in the nest box last night. We picked him up and put him in time out for a bit but as soon as we put him back he went after her again. Bella and Monique stayed right between him and her so he couldn't get to her. I went to the nest box and pulled Wynnie out and put her outside with everyone. It was like the lights went on with Justin. He went right up to her and chewed her out, it was a huge scolding but he finally left everyone alone and Wynnie went back into the coop.
