Nevadans?

Pam, that sounds more like it. Did you see anything like a prolapse?

Since Sunny is doing jokes I thought I would post a cartoon. I don't know how this came about but here it is:

No bloody poop, not overly wet around here (we've had a lot of rain but enough time between storms to dry things out), coop and run are nice and dry, no signs of being sick, she's over a year old, not a lot of blood on her.....I think she prolapsed.

The rest of the flock seems fine, no ones tucked away acting sick but I'll keep an eye on them of course.

Hi everyone,
I haven't been on this site in forever, but I figured I'd pop in to see if anyone had any bantam hatching eggs. My little Cochin/RIR cross I got from Genny is broody, and she makes the sweetest mama hen...I'd love to give her a couple of babies. Thanks in advance for any responses!
*Sunny, the three Easter chicks I picked up from you last year have grown into blue egg laying beauties! Two of them made their way to a girlfriend's house in Spanish Springs where they are spoiled rotten, and I kept the last little girl to add some color to our egg cartons!

HI Stacy,
I have Silkies, Seramas, and Show girl fertile eggs if you are interested.... My friend Hillary has bantam cochins laying too. I could collect some and bring to the Swap on Saturday.... just let me know via PM since I don't seem to get the notifications regularly....

Yes, when I looked her over the area looked weird and the pictures on the Internet looked like what I saw....of course I was looking through wincing eyes but I'm pretty sure that's what happened.

Yea I was doing a test hatch for Genny to see if her roo was fertile but none of her eggs developed at all. She is going to give him a separate pen with a few girls and see if that helps fertility. I just threw in a few of my pullet eggs to see if they would hatch and to my surprise they did! I have more eggs for Genny in there now from her Orp boy. They are looking good and are due to hatch by Monday.

Oh I do hope that this becomes a tradition here! I can use a good laugh
now and then and even enjoy the groaners!

So glad you figured it out! I have heard that prolapse is becoming more common these days. Our desire for high production and bigger eggs puts a strain on the production breeds. If that is true you shouldn't see that problem in the polish since they have been around since ancient times. Still so sad to lose a great hen!

Lol!!! Yesterday, as a client admired my chickens and asked what they ate, I said, "Just about anything. If I strain a bowl of chicken noodle soup, they'd be thrilled." She laughed so hard she snorted, and said that was just wrong.

I think it's funny when people look at what used to be a fluffly little chick, and realize it's an omnivore and can be a ruthless predator if the conditions turn it that way. It's not like they stop and ask, "Pardon me. Is this chicken, that we're eating, or fish?" (I just realized I compared my chickens to Jessica Simpson.)

Ooh, I'm so excited about the hatch!!!

So glad they're doing well, so far! On Saturday, when Sahara sees the cayugas, I'll ask her if she wants them or to wait for the Harlequins. No matter who "owns" them, we all know who will be taking care of them most of the time. I'm pretty sure she won't turn down a couple of cute fluffy black ducklings that are sitting in her hands, though. So the Harlequins will be mine. If I can't convince her to name them Balut and Pidan, those names are going for mine. But they're better names for black ducks.

When Joe asks, "What do I get?" I'll take him out to the garden and offer him one of the beds, and tell him he can plant anything he wants as long as he cares for it while he's home. That's actually a big sacrifice for me to make! To give up 15 square feet of super-fertile ground!

Pam, I'm glad you figured it out. I'm worried about the day I'll have to deal with prolapse. So far, we haven't lost chickens to anything other than roosterism.

Last night, I turned on the heat lamp in my greenhouse, and tossed a couple lf old comforters over the top. It was 50 degrees in there at 11pm and at 7am, with 35-40 degrees outside. I think I'm ready for this freeze to blow through. It's a good thing, too! It looks like I need to find a way to install a rack in there. As I transplant more seedlings, I realize how much space 500 red Solo cups really take up! I may fill the greenhouse, then keep some in the laundry baskets to move in and out. And Russ joked that I need to be careful, or I'll find homeless people sleeping in there. And I realized that it's a reality, because there are a lot of people sleeping in the parks around here. So I ziptied it closed. If I found someone, I think I'd offer them some food but explain that, if my plants die, my food budget is really compromised and I have kids to feed.

well, I wonder if we'll actually get any rain or snow or if it'll just be windy. sometimes I am really sick of the wind. I lived in Chicago for 4 years, and yes it was windy sometimes but not nearly as much as here!

I got the brooder all ready for the next batch of chicks. They should be arriving tomorrow a.m.

Can't believe I'm doing this again.

I had to take my son into urgent care this morning. And he has an ear infection as well. At least he should be feeling better soon now that he started the meds. And at least with 5 year olds they can tell you right away when something's wrong.

My husband asked if I wanted to go train at the gym with him. I don't think I want to be away from the house for 2 hours! Everything is standing up to the wind pretty well, but it's really nasty out there!

Yep crazy windy out there! I hope your son feels better soon!!!

I keep thinking of all the wind power I'm not generating on days like this!

Someday...

Sorry to hear your son is not feeling well Elizabeth. Hope he gets well soon!

I've always wondered about all that "Windy City" guff. It's hard to imagine somewhere that is windier than here!
