Nevadans?

This offer extends, of course, to those of you that I know in person.

I have a 13-year-old who thinks he can treat his sister like crap.  Russ is also tired of watching him disrespect me, and other girls.  So I'm trying to get together a list of people who would like free work done.  Certain infractions equal certain amounts of completely unpaid work.  He's nearly 6 feet tall, and I have pictures of him digging up a cement-hard driveway with a pickaxe, so he can do plenty of jobs.  Let me know.

I'm feeling chatty, and nobody else is.  I checked Sour's eggs today... Day 19.  One of the eggs is leaking something very evil.  I'm waiting until dark to candle them, and hopefully I'll be able to tell the evil ones from the virtuous ones.  Then I'll wash with Comet at least five times to try and get the smell off.  I tried to sniff the eggs to see if I could tell which were still good, but the evilness has spread to the outsides of all of them.

I wish you were closer. I have a whole lot of horse poo that needs to be cleaned.

Haven't had the evilness thingy yet and really don't want it.

Sorry your son isn't being nice at all. I had a great time and thank you for the help. There's stuff in my fridge still though, how do you want to get it? I don't mind meeting up my next day off.

If we can't meet for awhile, go ahead and drink the drinks. Of course, we can definitely make use of all of them. If you come down into this area on a day off or we head up there, we can get together.

I went out to candle again, and I ended up putting 8 of the 9 back in the nest because I'm still too inexperienced with this. One had an obvious oozing going on, and that went right into the trash. Garbage pickup is today and I wanted to get rid of the rotten ones, but I just wasn't sure on the others. They all smelled foul for being next to the evil one. Of the others, only 2 looked super good. Two others looked like they had started developing later, and the rest were totally dark inside. I'll assume that's a bad sign. But I just put those 8 back. Hatch day is supposedly tomorrow.

I also candled the eggs I got in the mail on Thursday. They're light brown, green, and blue, so they were easier to candle. But if anything is growing, it's still too early to tell.

Americanvalkyrie,

These might be ok. Its hard enough to see through a marans shell. When my white eggs are ready to hatch I can't see through them at all except the air sac.

On some of these, I couldn't even see an air sac. That's why I'm thinking they're bad. We'll see what happens in the next few days, though.

Missy I wouldnt fret about the ones you cant see airsacs on . Id let them all go until after the hatch .How exciting you are so close and have so many babies still keepin' on! If youre still worried about a rotten one being in there you can take each one and sniff it, the smell should be apparent if its gone bad. Good Luck!!!!! As far as that naughty son of your goes, sounds like a 13 year old to me! LOL! if he gets too out of line Ive got an entire deck that could use a paint scraping hahahaha.

Sheryl Congrats on the new job! I am so so happy for you! hopefully this will be one less stressor in your life.

Rooster time? YES! ROOSTER TIME! Im really lovin my boys right now. Gregory Peck has really hit a growth spurt and Mr. Pants has definitely reached that age of knowing how a rooster is supposed to act. I love em so much but all three are crowing now and I am thinking of leaving the people behind us a note to call me if they are having a problem with it. Im not sure though. Porkchop started about three weeks ago. Its such a perfect pleasant crow. Kind of deep and raspy for a bantam too, which makes it a little more muffled. Tht will most likely change though once he really finds his voice, so im trying not to get too hopeful on him. Hes a cute and friendly little sucker though, surprising since he is Peteys kid, haha.

Then there is Gregory Peck. Holy moly that rooster is a TEENAGER. Hes is so awkwrdly tall that he cant really walk anywhere without tripping on himself. He fell off the railing of the deck the other day when he stepped on his own foot while walking across it. His tail feathers have come out and are in a funny in-between place. Hes been learning to mate and has been ravaging my poor little silkie girl (who takes it like a champ!), but every now and then lets Mr Pants flog him as a reminder of whos girls they really are. He is so skittish and terrified of me, and on top of it when he crows it LITERALLY sounds like an old goose dying. Yep, a goose. He is SO LOUD. Too bad, too, that he didnt get more gold in. I doubt he will have any on his head or tail. Boo :( sure woulda been nice if he at least had a good personality.
anyways, 100 pictures for you!

Gregory Peck looking sassy. (i wish he would let me get closer!)

Mr. Pants is moulting and is mega sun-bleached right now

ALWAYS running from me!!

One more of Porkie ;)

I love the roos!!! Bite Size is definitely a roo, but he's still so quiet. He hasn't even stopped peeping like a chick. I'm not going to get rid of him until he starts to be a problem, since this is my 3rd try at a silkie and we all love him. He's such a sweetie.

Sahara wants to make eggplant enchiladas today, so she asked me to make the cheese for it. It's soooo nice to be able to walk around the yard and decide what you want for dinner, instead of going to the store for it. This time next year, we might even have some homegrown masa to make tortillas for enchiladas.

You know, I would have never thought of eggplant enchiladas. Filled with onion, swiss chard, mozzarella, and topped with a tomato sauce that's slightly spicy but has a bit more oregano and basil than traditional enchilada sauce. But she did. I think she's keyed in on a new talent.

Would your neighbors be opposed to a single rooster?  After all, that's where the problem lies... is with the neighbors and if he isn't overly loud, maybe they wouldn't mind?  All they can say is "NO!"  You could pose the question to ask IF you got a rooster, would they be bothered by it?

We've had a single rooster for over a year now and the neighbors that we know on out street and next to us have been kind an enjoyed him an said the roosters don't bother them, but I have never met any of the people behind us and have always been curious about how they've felt about it, and now that we have three I was thinking of sending them letters with my phone number on it to ask if the crowing has ever bothered them. I could just wait forever to see if I ever get that dreaded note from the city on my door but I'm not sure I want to be that neighbor :/ I don't know, I was thinking something like " hey were the people in the neighborhood with the roosters. We keep them for raccoon protection, but the good graces of our neighbors is much more important so please let me know if they wake you or if you have been upset by their presence in the past year." when I am in my house with windows shut and AC on I can barely hear them and the neighbors behind us are about twice the distance from the birds and live on a busy street, so I always just hoped they keep their windows shut and couldnt hear them unless they were outside too. I just wanna be a good neighbor but I honestly don't want to go door to door bak there because I don't know what kind of people they are

I'm not worried to all the neighbors adjacent to me. I've spoken at length with them, and have told them that I need to know if anything is a problem so I can handle it. I'm more worried about the neighbors a few doors down in each direction. I don't know anyone except the people on my block, haven't even spoken to them in 3.5 years of living here. But my two female ducks currently are a little loud, but only when someone walks through the driveway. They're my watchducks. The hens click a little upon laying an egg, but otherwise people don't even know they're there. I just don't want even a single visit from animal control. I dunno, I guess I'm such a low-profile person, I just don't even want to begin being a nuisance.
