I just found Harmony. She crawled under the feeder and her bill got stuck under the frame of the run. RIP my little Harmony!
I loved your little spirited life you had. What a joy. My very first duckling ever hatched here at home and a dog biting your bill and yet you came through it with the best attitude! I will always love you my little Harmony!
Oh, NO!!! I'm so sorry! My heart just plummeted when I read this!
Ok, I messed up the multi-quote thing with my cutting and pasting. Aaaaanyway... When I got my australorps from Elizabeth at 6 months old, they had small pale wattles and combs. Now that they're laying age, their wattles are nice and red.
the kids' soccer game was cancelled tomorrow due to an unsafe field condition of too many wasps and mosquitoes. is it bad that I'm not really disappointed about it?
I do enjoy watching them play soccer but it's a hassle to go every saturday
I'd be silently cheering, as well. Now you can relax tomorrow and not even feel guilty about it. I'm going to be picking pears, and probably not canning them tomorrow because I don't have time. And apparently I'm supposed to bring a side dish to a church dinner tomorrow night. Danged social life always gets in the way of getting stuff done. I had plans for what I was going to do today, but I woke up feeling AWFUL! My body's just reminding me that energy drinks are not a replacement for actually taking a break once in awhile. Russ let my birdies out so I could sleep in an extra 3 hours.
But the majority of the canning is done! Tomorrow I'm going to pick pears from a friend's tree. Next Saturday is apples from another friend's tree. Canning both of those. Plums from the trees outside my office, within 2 weeks at the most. Oh, and I have 5 dozen mini jelly jars to fill with grape and apple jelly this weekend so I can take them as handouts for my canning class on Tuesday.

Oh Sheryl, not your sweet little Harmony. She went through so much and you had so much hope for her, then she gets her bill bit and now this. I'm so sorry! Hugs to you.

Thank you both! I know, mine did when I found her.
John is feeling just horrible and so do I. I worked very late last night so I came home and went straight to bed because I had to double back early this morning. I didn't even check on them. This morning I got up and left. It was when I got home today and I didn't see her. I asked John where is Harmony and he said he didn't know and she didn't lay an egg today, she doesn't miss a day. I said she must be in the coop and he said she wasn't there. We both saw her under the food. She must have died yesterday. I can't believe it. It just kills me and him. The one time I don't do the head count this happens. She looked perfect. I just don't know.
Oh, Missy, start watching for eggs with your girls. Princess laid her first egg yesterday too, John thought it was a chicken egg. She's 3 weeks early. Lacy laid her first egg today.
What a melancholy day I had today. My older sister found out she is just like me and she's an SS. My younger sister just found out yesterday her liver is enlarged and now they need to test her. I can't believe all 3 of us have this. The kids really need to be tested for the phenotype and not just the disease. One of my boys must be a carrier if not both. Ughh!
What kind of rooster do you need? I got 3 baby orps from her (and 2 older pullets) as well and I'm pretty sure at least one is a boy. I already have 1 boy of hers here, that I love, so I might possibly have an extra orp cockerel soon.
Aaaaaand... I got to hold her new baby girl!!! What a precious little girl she is!!!!! Every time I spoke to her, her face was just wreathed in huge smiles!!! Such a young baby and already giving smiles that seem to light up the whole square block! Just an adorable, happy, happy baby girl!
Awww sorry! I took them all. They are going to quit working with the orps (their moving and space will be limited) so they will concentrate on the cochins only for now. The only reason I got the cochin cockerel is because the dominant roo hates him and she wants to keep the grown roo she has.
Yeah it's going to be a big and expensive project but it will be well worth it. I just need to try and keep it in my budget somehow. Wish there were stores that sold used wood and wire!

oh, lucky you! put me down for some frizzled cochins when you breed them. that little frizzle is so cute!
I know!!! She is such a card too! I was so excited when I saw that GitLost had a non-frizzled cochin roo!!! The same coloring as our little girl and about the same age too! Actually he is a little more blue colored (vs her gray coloring) and very, very handsome and sweet. At first I thought "where will I put another breeding pair?" Then I realized how silly that was cause I don't have to have the breeding pens done right now. She's not even close to laying yet.

Hey Sunny I was just planning to tear out all the barbed wire here. I've had to cut mustangs out of it twice now. What do you want it for? and how much would you like?

Oh, so sorry to hear that! Poor thing. I know that sinking feeling when you see a bird down--when I found my lav am under the ramp. You wish you could do something but it's too late.
