My niece has a red-foot. The thing (she, Tambura) LOVES strawberries. I had an iguana years ago and did a lot of the fresh food diet as outlined in some giagatic Green Iguana tome. Zag grew to be about 6.5 feet and lived a fairly long life for a captive ig. Had snakes in college. Reptiles are SO cool.
However, I've always had a thing for terrapins (got a mirror danglie in my car and even a tatt). It's a nice sparkly feeling to know that one has found a nice home. Enjoy him/her!
(I believe with tortoises you can tell the sex by looking at the underplate/belly. If it's flat, a female. If concave, a male.)

Believe me, I may have nice manners but I have no problem discussing those topics either....just not around family. Heck, hard not to discuss politics in my house with husby being a delegate.
Have a couple of funny stories about those taboo topics, too.
Sex: Poor Mom! She had to deal with my coming home from UCD or my stud farm and regaling her bridge ladies who asked what I was up to with tales of the breeding phantom (a large upholstered apparatus used for collecting for AI). What can I say? I think that being so blatantly denied knowledge actually spawned an intense interest in it.
Religion: We kids were mandated by the folks to attend the local church and Sunday school until we were about 12 years old, and then we could choose. At that point I think I chose to sleep in. And then through the years I attended some pretty innocuous youth-oriented groups. At one point (I think in college) somebody asked me what religion I was. I replied "Christian." "What denomination?" "Uhhhh....Community?" The only church in town was Piedmont Community. Heck. I never really thought about it, just read the sign. (And at present I still keep my beliefs private.)

In the same vein, post-college I was at a bbq gathering with a (now quite former) motorcycle-loving boyfriend down by the river and somebody asked me if I was Aryan. "No. Gemini."
(Yes, I am blond! Sometimes I amaze myself, though.)

edited for spelling:
Whereas I had snacks in college, I had snakes, too.

Ok, my notifications are on the fritz again and you all were very chatty. The kids had their soccer game this a.m. Soren scored 2 goals and Laila scored 1 so it was a fun game. then we galavanted around town on various errands. We were at Joann fabrics for about 2 hours getting material for halloween costumes. it is always so packed in there on the weekends and takes so long since you have to wait first in the cut line and then in the pay line. anyway, we were successful in our hunt. tonight I'm working on the t-rex head for soren's costume. it's coming out good.

Anyone for any fun plans this weekend?
We bought our roommate a vintage guitar that he's been looking for for a couple of years for his birthday and we put together a show with all of our favorite bands tonight that his and marks band is gonna play and were gonna give it to him durin their set! I'm so excited!
Also every year one of our favorite local non profits hosts a Halloween cover show where all us musicians get together and dress up as our favorite bands and play short sets. It's so much fun and had such a good turn out every year. Mark did Sam Cooke one year and it was AMAZING. He's done nirvana, iggy and the stooges, and this year the sonics.
That's tomorrow night and I literally look forward to this day every year. So I'm glad that's happening.
I have to think about fun things right now. Last night my dad was in a motorcycle accident and I spent the night in the ICU. Had to be to work at seven but got out early an have been sitting in the family surgery room waiting for good news. He broke his pelvis in two place and snapped his arm in half. Had to have five blood transfusions but I think his blood levels have finally hit normal. The surgeons seem confident they can save him so I am keeping a positive attitude for his wife. I'm very worried though
so sorry about your dad's accident! I hope he will heal quickly.

Holy cow, I was off for 9 hours. That seems like a lot, but the sun isn't even down. Talkative!

We missed the poultry exhibit too, but I bought my husband's early Christmas present. He's resting now, after chomping down on a cherry tomato. I don't know if it's a he or a she, but we need more of a male presence here. I have friends who identify as female when they were born otherwise, and they're called she... so Hugo Chavez can be a he or just identify as a he. I have no idea where to look and am not sure I want to even try.

Hugo Chavez is a 6-wk-old redfoot tortoise. I'll post pictures after I get back from a friend's Halloween party.

And my coop is finally getting its roof! It was just as expensive to get 2 sheets of corrugated fiberglass as it was for shingles, so we just bought two of those and some roofing nails. I'll get the light up later, but now it can rain and snow all it wants. Finally it's done! I got the rest of the coop finished in March, I think. Or May. Something like that. The roof is finally on, and it took 15 minutes.
I got to meet hugo chavez! He is gorgeous!

lol I love tortoises too. I used to take my pair into class with me (along with the bunny) during the biology lessons when the kids were learning about species, classes, families, etc of animals.

How's your Dad doing Aubrey?

I just checked out the weather report for the North Valleys this week! I think we better head into town and stock up on groceries! I don't think I'm gonna want to drive in this mess this week.

Yeah, Elizabeth! I totally cant wait. Youre the best costume maker!

Thanks for asking Sunny, They found another break in his knee, but they said that since he will be bedridden for a long time it should heal u on its own, phew! Also he got moved out of ICU and into a real room with a window and a TV so thats awesome, lol. I think they want to try and get him into physical therapy next week but I am not 100% certain. Hes in pain but he is responsive to it and to me thats a good sign :) I think its gonna be a long road from here, but i am just happy that I will still have my Dad to walk me down the aisle next year :)
Do any of you want to visit me? Don`t worry I`m perfectly harmless....most of the time.
