There have been several posts of similar situations. 40' is quite a drop. I'd be tempted to pile lots of loose hay around the base of the tree. I know that wood duck ducklings can drop that far without injury, but I'm not sure about chicks.

Good idea. Hay and or leaves to create a nice springy landing.

Ouch. Mine have been clumsy enough to faceplant off a 5-inch ledge; 40 feet is... wow... they'd better flap like their little lives depend on it.

She's been setting about 14 days. I have no idea how many eggs she is setting on though.

That is crazy. But if she were my hen I'd capture her, pen her and not let her go back there.
It will be a sad day when you go out and 10 baby chicks are dead at the base of the tree.
