So what makes a silkie duck silkie? I've been looking at some pictures and they look like normal ducks! Are they softer, like silk?

I posted pics of mine, see the feathers along the bottom of the breast and legs, they are whispy and longer. The duck is also a bantam making it ultra super adorable. My ducks both have the silkie gene meaning all offspring will be silkie, not all silkie ducks have the feathering but may produce offspring with the feathering. There is a better explanation on Holderreads site.

Yay, thanks for all the enthusiasm! I will post pictures as soon as we get them. Silkie ducks for now, but hopefully silkie chickens in the near future! We need to grow our chicken flock, too, but are on a bit of a duck kick at the moment!

Quack!

Congrats on your ducks. I got my ESQ silkie adults a few weeks ago from Holderreads. They are beautiful sweet little ducks. Please post picks. Here are mine.

I have been hoping some other silkie owners would be on here to compare notes.
