Great! Sounds like things are going well so far. I can't wait for pictures

When we can do it without losing a finger or an eye! She's pretty set on nobody touching her right now, ack!

Good girl!

She's gonna be a fierce mama! I still want to see her react with the chick directly, but usually, if they raise up to allow the baby to move around under them rather than clamp down, they do okay, at least in my experience.

Yesterday, Brandy actually took a grain out of her bowl, put it on the ground and clucked for chicks, a really good sign. I have not seen Bonnie do that yet, though she has chicks hatching right now.

There is some intense mammahood in those genetics.
Must be! Who needs those Silkies anyway? Not when you have Brahmas like these!

A picture to tide you over-I hope it's appreciated that I took my life in my hands to do this! LOL.

Two Barred Rock chicks have hatched and the Brahma egg is pipped. The last BR egg, the one in the front of the photo, I'm not even sure that chick is alive in there at this point. She seems a tad calmer with me. I sat with her a long time, moving the waterer over so she could drink and she seemed rather grateful..and very thirsty! She reacted perfectly to the chicks when I scooped them to the front and removed the second shell from underneath her so I'm quite relieved!

How exciting and very brave of you!

Yep, I even went in without a helmet and chain-mail gloves! I saw one of the chicks peeking out from underneath her. Love it when they do that. The Brahma chick is close to zipping out, I think. The last BR, I do believe, is deceased. I took it out and candled. It is not in the air cell, not moving, just a solid lump in the egg, so I think it was a late death. I'll check it after the Brahma chick hatches later today. Three is plenty for a first time mom anyway.
