A man had called off my co-op ad and apparently all he saw was "partridge", looking for partridge Rock rooster for his PR hens. How he missed the photo of Bash on the ad, I have no idea. He had to ask what the difference was. He never called back, which I didn't expect he would. A Brahma rooster like Bash is really too large for a PR hen anyway.

I got a picture PM'd to us on FB from a lady to whom I gave a few Brahma hatching eggs for her broody hen. One hatched (lots of moving them around that first week by the newbie hen, etc, so more should have hatched) and this is what she got. Not my luck to have only one hatch and be a pullet, but she got a girl.

Oh, we've been doing a complete barn pen cleanout and chicken dusting for the last couple of days. Today, while DH went to town for more shavings, I did the Brahma pen by myself. And then, I decided to dust each bird by myself, including humongous Sebastian. You should have seen me scoop him up and take him outside, sit on a chair with him on his side on my lap. He was nervous, not understanding what I was going to do, but when I spoke into his ear and told him how good he was, he just lay there and let me dust his tush and under his wings. Such a love!

My BR rooster, Hector, on the other hand, needed a straight jacket. Took two of us to do him. What a loon! He goes nuts when you have to pick him up for anything, though he is fine with being rubbed and petted while on the roost. Bash is my baby, my big old blue baby, always easy to deal with, comes home when I call him, just a great rooster.

I do believe we have some pullets in this batch of six. Three or four already have full wing feathers and even shoulder feathers peeking through at just two weeks old. I was hoping for more than half pullets this time to make up for the all male four-chick hatch last time. So, hope that's the case. Two are feathering much slower than the other four. If I had just two males, that would be heavenly!

And Bonnie on the nest, B.J. getting feathers in finally (seems the first big molt is early for her) and beautiful young Cora.
