New Brahma Group: Blue Partridge x Partridge, Plus Dark

Those were some crazy fights. :) I have never seen nothing like them before.

There is nothing like a Brahma brother! They are the sweetest males ever, but boy, one afternoon, somewhere around six weeks old, there is a battle to end all battles. No other chicks I've ever had in any breed did this.

He was perkier yesterday and ate eggs. Today, he was less inclined to eat what I brought him, sat down in the back of the cage after picking at the bowl of food I brought. He won't eat unless I hold it up to him, won't go get it for himself. He did crow three times from that sitting position after he saw Hector trot down the barn aisle to go outside, sounded weak. His poop is nothing but water and green stuff.
Where I'm petting him, you can see he got oatmeal or something stuck in the folds of his comb. I need to get it out, but it's like trying to wipe a toddler's nose to make him hold still for that, as you can imagine.

Sometimes I've had unwell birds rally, and improve. Poor guy. It's good he's perking up,a bit.

I feel like this temporary burst of energy, if you can even call it a "burst", is the rally before the big downhill slide. I know you've seen it. My gut says he's not going to recover, but anything is possible. Their bodies can fight a lot, as long as they are basically healthy and well-fed, and he was up until a few days ago. Not sure what the deal is here. He's just the sweetest gentle giant.

Yeah, I want to remain hopeful, but I've lost enough birds in every sort of way over the years. Generally when they go downhill they keep going. I haven't had any luck stopping it myself in my birds, only slowing it.

I do hope it's something he can recover from though. Maybe he sprained one of those big old legs. :fl

I have lost younger birds for no apparent reason too. It's frustrating, but it's life. :hmm
