I just did my first hatch ever with a used Lyon TX-6 bator I found on
ebay. With the bid of $108 and shipping of $10, I could have bought this
Brinsea brand new and had a 2 yr. warranty. Lost a few eggs (didn't hatch, one exploded). Being a total novice and not sure how much time had elapsed between lay date and actual into the 'bator date probably didn't help, either!
I had 5 OEGB BBreds; 3 hatched, 4 Silkie eggs (3 hatched) and 10 BO/BO and RIR/BO (8 hatched). This is after my lovable but MEDDLING 9 yo niece turned the bator temp knob. It had been holding perfect temp, and I happened to walk by & glance at the temp...
109 degrees. Most of the eggs had already hatched at that point, only one more hatched after that incident. I thought I'd leave them another day or two, and one that had partially developed exploded. There's not a funky enough smilie to describe that ....
I tossed the remaining ones in the trash (no sound, no signs of life). Clean bator is now full again w/ silkies & OEGB BBred eggs...
Can you get addicted to hatching after just one "hit" ?? *feel like an eggie junkie*
