New BYC Auction System - Want To Buy A Chicken (Just A Test)

That's helpful. So, my follow up to you: How many listings do you guys think you make every month on average?

I would think more thought would go into this too. Such as holidays and birthdays. Some people may want to post more around christmas time. And not so much in..say...March? Also for the people who sell eggs. One month may be waaaaay better then another. If Im only allowed to have 5 auctions per month, and June is not my month, I only have enough eggs for say 2. Then come September and I have plenty. Say I have enough for 10 auctions. What would we do then?

I'd say, for GFM's, up to but not more than 4 listings (16 per month) a week and for non-GFM's, up to but not more than 2 listings (10 per month) a week. Hey, being a GFM has it's advantages

Also, maybe in the months of Nov. & Dec. (your gift to us LOL) could be unlimited listings for the month, since people are more apt to buy in those 2 months for others... and also again maybe in a couple months during the Spring/Summer for those who sells eggs. JMO

But, another question for you Nifty..... is there going to be a limit on how many pics can be posted on the Auction, Buy it Now, etc. post? Hope I'm not confusing you

"Nifty's Way" ... ought to make that a movie.......
but anyway, I guess you mean all together as a group, I'd say between 1500 to 2000 BSTs a month. That brings up another question, what about trading, did I miss that being addressed?

1) Are you saying you don't think "more thought" has gone into this? I promise it has... over a year's worth.
2) Unless we charge for listings we need to have limits. Otherwise BYC BST turns into Craigslist where the people with all the time on their hands can post hundreds of times a week and push everyone else off the list.
3) We already know what the limits are probably going to be (I've even done database queries to show how many times members have posted in all the BST sections for 30 day periods) I'm just asking how many times you guys think you post.

What about this idea...

Instead of a set number of listings allowed per month, what about a limit on how many can be listed at one time. For example, if we are allowed 2 listings at any time. I post 2 listings for blue and green dodo eggs, which ends 4 days from now. I cant list anything else until I sell those eggs, or remove the listing. So since no one is buying dodo eggs, I have to wait, or remove. Now Dipsy Doodle posts 2 listings for Dipsy and Doodle eggs. She sells them both in an hour. She can then post another 2 listings. So essentially GFM membership buys you 2 slots in the auction to use as you see fit.

There is one picture that represents the listing. All other pictures can go into the body of the post like any other thread. They can be uploaded to BYC or hosted somewhere else.

We're 10 steps ahead of you, but we appreciate the ideas and feedback.

Here is what would happen if we had a limit on current auctions: People would come in and post 1 day long auctions every day to keep their listings on top of the page. If the limit was 2, they would post 2 auctions ever day until the items are sold.

Our goals are to clean up BST and make it fair for everyone. There will be a little bit of discomfort (as with any change) but BST has turned into a huge part of BYC but also a huge mess (just ask the staff). We are listening to all the feedback, but there are some major updates and changes that have to be made so the BYC BST section will be a well oiled machine by next Spring.

Nifty, I actually have 1 post in the BST where I am making baskets, but I have to add updated pics periodically, but if I understand right (correct me if I'm wrong) with this system I may have to make a listing for each basket....

if not then I'd say again for the GFM's....4 listings a week and for non-GFM's 2 listings per week. I'd say that should be sufficient.

Yes, and this is also in your best interest (IMHO). Instead of one long thread you have individual listings to track and to keep track of who purchased what and what still hasn't been sold. Also, you have a better opportunity for more feedback from completed transactions.
