I have never seen a pic of a possum before, or even seen one.. The do have ugly tails, like a rat.. Are they really that vescious? They do look sort've soft, like you could pet them.. But that one pic, looking like it's got rabies, makes me think twice!! I guess I'll be happy we don't have those here

Funny thing is I actually did that before.

It was the biggest possum i think I have seen and it was harrassing me so I did have to smack it seventy-billion times....just to make sure it wasn't playing possum with me.. They are nasty little critters!

That's when you squish their pea sized brain out with a shot gun.

Either way, they go squishy.

Our dog paralyzed one once. I squished its brain with two .22LR high-velocity hollow points. It went very squishy, though there wasn't really a mess... not enough brains to be noticeable, I guess. The dog did spend quite a bit of time around the area, though.

Meh, if it takes more than one hit with a shovel to send a beastie to beastie heaven, DH is shooting it instead. Possums are vermit here, they come near, they are dispatched.

You will feel much differently, after one of them EATS your chickens. Or a piece of one, and leaves the rest of the body, dead or alive, for you to clean up...

When we first moved here, the house came with a semi/feral cat. Every night when I went out to feed the kennel dogs, I would feed her on the porch. By the time I finished my chores and got back to the house there would always be a monster opossum on the porch eating the cat food.

That is the number one reason NOT to leave food on the porch at night. You don't know what will show up for a snack.
