Apologies for the mickey mouse paint program, didn't feel like loading SketchUp.

Ok, thanks this was helpful.

How much overhang should be on the sides? A couple of inches? Couple Of feet?

Can I also do a fascia board the same way @DickMidnight did it?
I like about 1 foot, give or take, and yes, you can. The front of my barn extends almost 4 footl, so I can open the doors, shltered from the weather - but that requires pillars to support the corners against sagging. My first shed extends about 15 inches - no support required, and isn't significantly better than about a foot - its enough to help protect the building, but not so much as to keep me dry. The sides of my barn are almost 2' - enough that I can move sideways down the length and stay dry, on one side or the other, when the rains come - but that was 2x6 framing, 24" oc.

Unfortnately, some of this is climate and use specific - I can't give a one size fits all answer - I'm still learning my own area by doing.

Ok, thanks. I'll probably just do a foot on the sides then a fascia board
