new coop begun-two years later and we're still working on it

Thanks. The snow covers the still unfinished roof. It needs paint and trim. Insulation didn't happen either but the birds did just fine. There's so much room that they just elected to stay inside when it was cold and kept each other warm. The ducks had been living in their own dog houses but they chose to move in with the chickens. Everybody gets along just fine. We're covering the pen anyway because we have a hawk who attacked one of my Red Stars three weeks ago. He got nothing more than talons full of feathers, but that was just lucky on our part. If my son hadn't gone out to play the hawk would have probably finished her off. As it was it was still hanging around later in the day. No more free ranging birds here unless we are out working in the yard keeping watch.

I am going to cover my pen. It's like 30x40. There should be pics on my page. You're coop is further along than mine! It's just a frame! I haven't gotten plywood yet LOL. I am going to cover it and hopefully the aussie/collie mix I am getting will learn to protect the flock from hawks. She is chicken friendly and 12 weeks approximately. Hopefully she will be a faithful protector!

Cool! I think the fact that our Aussie died in February may have had something to do with the increase in hawk activity. Jack spent a lot of time outside (by choice). We're getting a golden retriever puppy next month. I don't think he'll be as good at scaring them off as Jack was!

I think you need more birds though.... But that just the addict in me talking.
Now get going the snow is melted, get back to work! Roof, insol, trim and paint. George is waiting!

Probably because it's a year old!! Thanks for the compliment.
Vacation next week so yes, we'll be back at it. Funds ran dry last year.
If you want to hatch some of my eggs for me some day then raise them and only give me back the pullets I might add more.

I have 6 babies in the house from Murray McMurray. That will make 19 out there.
