New duckling! Help?

Hey guys I just picked up sunni from outside and he’s like salivating a ton??? He shook it all over me so now I’m covered in duck saliva but I’ve never seen a duck salivate like that is he ok?

Was he slobbering before you picked him up?

@CayugaJana i didn’t notice so not until I picked him up and he shook his head. I posted in another group and they said maybe he was choking since he was sort of gagging as well... tried to do the “help your choking duck” routine on him and gave him lots of water and after like 20 minutes he seemed to be fine. Back to preening and everything. I put him back out and I have him in with Billy right now for a bath and he seems fine. I think he might have had something sitting in his throat/stomach wrong

I bet he had just drank a lot of water and his crop got squished a little when you picked him up. Then it caused him to “burp” a little bit back up. I’ve done it before, scared me a little.

Still no signs of quacking.. this is what sunni sounds like currently. Any gender guesses? I feel like a female would have been quacking by now! @CayugaJana tagging you since you are the duck expert!

Lol. My husband is sitting next to me and said “why are you listening to a zebra??”. Apparently they sound just like Sunni!

Does he make very much noise or is he mostly silent? I think you may be right about him being a male. His bill length looks more like a male. My boys bills are longer than the girls. But could just be the angle of the camera.

Why don’t you just come to the Midwest so I can pick him up and giggle him myself? Then I would be more sure!

It is probably just nervous and scared in it's new environment! For the clogged nostril, vicks vapor rub. Place it under the ducklings nose and let him in hake it for awhile. Then boil some water and let him inhale the steam. Hope this helped!

@CayugaJana LOL! Sunni is a zebra you got me.... he's been a zebra this entire time. I'm starting to call him a boy now lol my mom said "Stop calling him a boy we don't know yet!" and I told her I'd bet her $10 (because I am broke) that it's a boy lol. Both Mochi and Billy started quacking about 2 weeks younger than Sunni is now and I think that would explain the aggressiveness

beak away
