New from Bama

Tracy, a big HUGE welcome from KY! Sounds like you have it all planned out, so good luck with keeping FOUR hens. As you can see by reading on here, it is so fun to collect birds. I have a dream of having a Green House/Coop for my brooder, keeping the chicks underneath the shelves. Enjoy this wonderful site and get your son involved, chickens can be very therapeutic for autism I understand. HenZ (L&D RN)

Nice! My brother lives on Pocahontas not far down from the lodge and my sister lives on Paradise Lane (farther down Poco). Nephew at Coleman Lakes and another sister at Rock Mountain Lakes. We're all around you!

I hope you were safe from the storm yesterday, and that you didn't have any damage.

Yes, it sounds like you have family all around me. Please stop by when you're in the neighborhood. PM me and I will give you directions.

Welcome from a very damaged Tuscaloosa.

Good luck building your coop. If there's one thing I have learned is your coop is never completed - there is always something you will want to change, so use screws when building!

Thanks for the warm welcome, Chuck. I hope you didn't suffer much damage? Thank God we were spared here--too close for comfort, but the worst we got was lots of insulation, shingles and wood from the less fortunate. Even the coop we're building survived with nothing but the base and studs screwed down to base (no cross bracing).

Tuscaloosa, Concord, Pleasant Grove and other areas are just sickening

TMoore, I will definitely stop by at some point! Thanks for the invite!

Guys, I have a question. I have a friend that lives just off highway 5 who offered to give me all the hens I want, but I think I remember her saying they are around 1.5 years old. If that's so, then I won't have much laying time left, right? I'd really like to start with chicks, but I just can NOT have roosters here and don't know what I'd do with the ones I'm sure to end up with. Do ya'll know of where I may purchase young, but sexed chicks in our area?

Thanks for your help!!

As a mother to 5 labs I have to say none of them like cats/kittens. And as far as nipping the kid mine did that when they would run (usually from me) but always as a playing.
