New from Huntsville Texas

Hello! I finally figured out how to post here, thanks to the help pages. We have done chickens before and had a farmers market egg business, but had to move. Several years later now and we want to have chickens again, but I have a hankering for quail this time, as I really love the eggs. I've always had a hard time eating what I raise, so I am really hoping to get over it and learn to enjoy eating quail. And since I will invariably be hatching quite a few males and don't need too many for breeding, it seems a waste to not eat them. I recently posted an answer to someone about hatching some eggs. I have a brand new incubator that is warming up as I write so I can put my brand new Coturnix eggs in it tomorrow and hopefully hatch out some babies. I'm so excited. I made plans up for a hutch based on looking at several styles, many on this site. I've never built anything like this before and my husband is itching to help me, but I want to see if I can do it myself with him as a stand-by resource. I also bought a ready made one as a backup plan, but if all works out I will need at least 2 anyway! Wish me luck! I will post my progress....

Welcome! I am in Conroe so not far from you. I don't raise qual but have lots of egg laying chickens.
Hi there!! Very glad to meet you! We just moved from Montgomery to Huntsville because I work here, and I grew up in the Houston area so I am very familiar with the area. We, at this time, are sprouting 2 RIRs and 2 Plymouth Barred Rocks. We had black sex links before (100 of them) but like these better as they are more friendly and I've heard they aren't as broody.

I have two barred rock hens- and they are two years old if not a bit older and neither one has gone broody, I have some production reds also and they don't either.
Nice to meet you by the way :)
