Sponsored Post New Giveaway: Try out the Southern States Poultry Pal App for a chance to win!

To add to my previous comment. I would like to add. That many of us get lot with chicken math. Lol. But anyways we love to incubate and hatch our own eggs. So with that said a place to keep track of the eggs we put in the incubator would be a heaven scent. Like day eggs put in. How many. What breeds Lockdown reminder and hatch date. Also we would be able to keep track of the clears ( infertile) blood rings and viable. Candel dates on 7 10 18. Then amour that hatched. Flock eggs. Local eggs or shipped eggs. Air cells. I know that is alot to think about but I know alot of us at byc would love to have it and I would pay extra for the incubating chart. But we all know free is better.
I know alot of is have common or unusual breeds and some breeders are working on project breeds. So my idea to add the breed you want in the place of other would help out everyone and very versatile. You can add your own breed.
I have had your app since it came out and I love it for the fact it makes things alot easier. Thank you for thinking of all of us to help you out with your app and get all kinds of feedback. Thank you for creating this app for us chicken loves!
Excellent idea!! I can never keep track of all the eggs set. Maybe a # or name for the incubator or broody too, since some of us have it reallllly bad. LOL

Also I've seen other things listed that I haven't seen on it. I guess that means I don't get the whole page either?

I like the possibilities that this app could bring...that said there are several breeds missing from the list. I would like it better if when you starts typing your breed came up verses having to scroll down this huge list of names. It would also be nice if you could check off and date when your chicken had been vaccinated, dewormed, NPIP tested, etc. a place for logging in dates they had Apple Cider Vinegar in their water, vitamins, probiotics, antibiotics. Maybe a tab for chicken ailments with symptoms and what the treatment plan is for standards and bantams. I would like to be able to take a picture of each bird and enter their band number along with their NPIP number. Well, think that's it. I hope this app can take on more functions as I think it would be quite valuable if it could. Think in terms of breeders and exhibition shows, location, judge, awards.

The App, in what I have been using it for, is pretty good. As many others have complained, though, there are so many breeds missing. I had to select 'Other' for each and every one of my pictures. On the one part of the app that lets you view information about chicken breeds, I feel that the breeds shown on that page should be incorporated into the little section where you select your birds breed. But still, many breeds are not on that breed guide, page, either. Easter Eggers, Marans, Lakenvelders, Hamburgs were all things I did NOT see.

Pros:
Helpful
Egg Tracker is a good idea
Guide to breeds
Neat, organized

Cons:
Not nearly enough types of breeds

I have been using this app and I find it really good. I love the way that you can put in details about your own flock, my only problem with this aspect is the limited number of breeds available. For instance I had to enter Other three times while entering my flock. Also there wasn't any bantam breeds specified. I liked the egg tracker and I found it useful for keeping track on what eggs I got each day. I thought the gallery was a good idea because I was able to see other peoples chickens. Overall I would highly rate this app and I think it is a necessity for all chicken owners.
I will continue using it in the future.

Diary of a new Ap install

(those that know me will understand that title)
I found Poultry Pal easily in search at the play store for my HTC. I read the ratings and was a tad afraid of the AP and almost clicked out of it as most said the same thing, that it has so many bugs and barely any chicken breeds. But mission accomplished! I did the download and it installed fast without any issues! WELL DONE! So after download I first went to the top of the "Manage my Flock" I am extremely disappointed to say that I could add my birds as "Others" but I am not sure that would be of any use for me having a flock of "others" without distinction between birds and I would have liked it to have a GENDER option as well, as this is important in chicken keeping. (I would be ok with a M or F option, but pullet hen and so on would be awesome) Also I keep track on my excel file, dates that I have given meds, Lice/Mites prevention sprays, worming, any sickness what coop they are in and even when a hen is broody. Back to the AP, I added a "other bird" and I added a photo and it popped right on there! WELL DONE! I wish I could upload images to BYC from my phone like that! (sorry Rob, I have yet to be able to upload anything from my cell to the BYC site and have been having even more issues on my laptop now that some of that area has been revampt) Then I saved my file for my "Other" bird and I had an error message "Please enter values in all required fields" And I realized I could type the breed into the chicken "name" area, and then I saved it took me back to my chicken list screen, my thoughts are that it looks sort of rigged (as it is) with the name and then OTHER under it, by that's my personal opinion. So I go back to the home screen and click on "Chicken Guide" I click on chicken breeds expecting the same short list and then I see a much longer list of breeds and some of my birds are listed! Well done there, but why in that area and not in where I need them? I marked one as a favorite and it worked when pulled to "My Favorites". Well done. Went into Article section and was searching for an Incubation Article and didn't find one, So I like one of the other articles and went to see if it stored it. It stored, well done. Product Gallery when clicked didn't open or go to that area. I didn't get an error it just lit the background and didn't do anything. Back to main page and opened Gallery (which I may add I thought was "my" gallery when in fact it should be called what it is, "Community Gallery". I click to add image and snap a pic from my phone camera and I get a black screen and it locked up! OH WAIT! it didn't lock up its a black board for writing and I didn't know it! I suggest a note saying what that page is, like type here or auto bring up the keyboard! DOH! I submit to gallery and it tells me its updating and then shows me the gallery afterwards and my image is no where to be found. Again, "Please wait a configuration update is available" and no image in the Gallery. I updated the page three times and both images are not there and it says last image had been uploaded over 5 days before. I then tried the Poultry Blog and keep getting errors and then it finally updated the Poultry Blog and its empty screen. So at this point I skip all that other stuff in the "More" section and head to Egg Tracker. Now this is a funny one! Egg tracker I thought being an addicted hatcher was for incubation! DOH...so perhaps adding "Track Egg Production" instead of track egg lol! So I need to ad that I need to include incubation and hatching information somewhere for it to work for me too!

My conclusion is this......Be it my HTC Smart phone or the AP itself or BOTH this AP is not worth using for my flock or incubating unless it can actually provide more without all the bugs. I need to keep track of more information than this is allowing me to as stated in detail above. But it is a wonderful idea and I can see it being extremely useful with some changes and a bunch of additions! Keep working on it Please!

Downloaded to iPhone. Would love to add to iPad. Needs more breeds in flock management and would be great if it listed estimated age based on the hatch date. I tried to leave a comment for admin through app and that didnt work. I keep track of most of this in a notebook or in phone now. This app would streamline the info. With some additions this would be a app I would use almost daily!

In my opinion, this has the potential to be a useful as well as entertaining app. A few tweeks and it can be the best poultry app available - possibly to the point of being one of those apps worth paying for. The graphics and color scheme are very pleasing. The simplicity of the menus are friendly. I enjoy using the "manage my flock" application and "egg tracker". I very much want to use the gallery, blog, and locater functions, but the app constantly crashes when I do. This in all fairness may be an issue with compatibility between my Samsung phone and the app and not necessarily the app itself. I tried to upload a photo from my phone into the gallery and it hasn't appeared. This may also be due to some type of screening? I can see this as being a much used App for myself and a majority of the members here (especially if other breeds can be accomodated) with a few tweeks in performance. Thank you for bringing it to my attention!

I like the app,but as another said, I would love to log the progress of my birds with pictures in their profiles. Also, fix the missing breeds, no EE, BLRW, Marans, etc. seems like a useful tool, can't wait to use it onc the girls start laying!
