If you look at my avatar you will see Mr. Ducken. He was hatched by my BO Last summer. A farmer near us ran over a setting mother on her nest, and I had a broody BO and no rooster.

He is not snuggly but has always lived with chickens, he is a good boy. I would like to find him a home with ducks. I have no plans or room to add more ducks. ANYBODY INTERESTED?

WOW, I just heard on the upcoming News station here that some lady went to collect her chicken eggs and there was a dead fox in her coop....I need to go watch the news and see where it was. I am watching Fox 25 news (no pun intended) form the boston area station.

I think my hatch is going to be a bust

Noticed water droplets on the inside of the incubator. Turns out my hygrometer was not reading correctly, I should have known since it took a lot of water to get it up to normal range, I guess I just wasn't really thinking. Bought a new one and put it in, 96% humidity! It's early on in the hatch still but I candled tonight and can't see any air cells at all

I have the humidity on the low side now hoping to dry them out some but I'm thinking their chances aren't good. There is early development I can see in most and I'm terrible about picking out that stuff in candling so early in a hatch. I guess another 3 or 4 days will really show me how it's going to be.

As if my eggs mishap isn't bad enough, 2 of my young EE cockerels turned on the other 2 in the cage with them. One has wounds on either side of his tail but he is scabbed over and has left himself alone. The other has a large open area all across the top of his tail and lower back and he will not stop picking at it now himself. I washed it all down with surgical iodine and slathered it with triple antibiotic ointment but I'm concerned he is going to keep picking it. I'm going to try calling the vet in the morning to see if they have any bird sized E-Collars, hopefully he will sleep through the night and not do any more damage to himself. I love my chickens but they sure can be brutal to each other and themselves!
