Hi I’m new to BYC and so happy I found this forum! This will be my first time hatching chicks. Got my incubator set up. Now just waiting for my Silkie eggs to get delivered in the mail. One question, once I receive the eggs, should I let them sit at room temperature for a while before putting them in the incubator? And if so for how long?:thumbsup

:welcome!

Congrats on the incubator and your first time hatching! Make sure you have the incubator set up in advance and running for a day or two before the eggs go it so you can make sure it is holding the correct temperature and humidity.

For shipped eggs, it is best to let them rest fat end up in an egg carton at room temperature for a day after they arrive before putting them in the incubator.

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

As Pyxis had mentioned, let your eggs rest, large end up, for 18-24 hours before setting them. This allows the air bubbles that have formed during shipping to float to the top of the egg, thus allowing the air cell to reform at the top of the egg. Meanwhile, get your incubator started and running while eggs are resting. When you first set eggs, your temp and humidity can go haywire, this is normal. Usually it all settles back down on its own within 12 to 24 hours without you making any changes.

Good luck with your hatch and welcome to our roost! :)
