Hi, so I recently came into contact with an egg - weird way to put it I know. I know this is a chicken forum, but the egg is obviously not a chicken, but I was hoping you guys could give me some general help with the thread I posted in incubation etc. I am worried about its health / fertility. Thanks so much, I didn't think I'd be into birds haha

Can we see a picture of the egg? Where did you find it? If it was in a bird's nest then put it back. Do you have an incubator, is it in the incubator if you have one, and how long has it been out of the incubator. You could try to candle it and see if it has already started to develop. For candling you need to be in a dark room with a bright light, I use my phone's light. If it is a small egg you could probably just use a normal flashlight.

Welcome to BYC. What are you trying to accomplish with this egg ? Incubation ?

Hi, if you read my other post, you will find out - the egg was on the side of the road, and we all looked around to try and find it. The animal shelters etc. near us don't take eggs, so I put it in an incubator - it is probably a house sparrow if I am identifying it correctly. What do I look for in candling, even in the first couple days?

Howdy :frowand welcome to BYC!

Incubation is the easy part of raising song birds. The rearing of them is the hard part. Takes a lot of dedication to pull it off.

Anyhow, thanks for joining us here at Backyard Chickens. :woot
