No you're right about only allowed to have four in Brick. We're just rule breakers here. My neighbors on all sides of us love them and all of them have grandkids that come almost each weekend to feed them. We have a big piece of property with a tall privacy fence. It took some of the neighbors months before they even knew they were back there.

Lol :D I love it. Maybe one day...we need to ease into all of this. Having the new one have a cold (?-bubbles in her eyes) already threw us a bit with all that you read about it! We worry about the kids getting colds...now the chickens too?! ;)

They are all so pretty though. I love that the biggest one actually hopped towards me to be petted today :) cute!

Quote: I heard a tip at the show just this weekend when I was prettying up the girls for showing:

VetRx is a supplement you can buy pretty much anywhere. Although you can use it as a mild medication, I typically only use it to dress the combs, wattles, and feet of my birds for the shows. A long-time breeder told me that when the birds have the gurgles, or a slight case of the "bubbles," you can put a drop or two down their throats and that should clear it up. It's like ingestible Vicks. Another breeder puts a clove of raw garlic down their throats for very mild symptoms. (Although I wouldn't use a whole clove for bantams - use half.)

Ginny, I MIGHT be going to York, although not to show. I'd like to go, as the guy who runs the show bought a pair of my favs last spring and I want to ask how they're doing. With my crazy school schedule this month, I probably won't know until the night before. Hopefully I will see you there. Also, here's the link for the officers of the Dominique Club of America. Contacting one of them should lead you to some breeders. You sure know how to pick the rare breeds, girl! But, all the ones you picked are great. (Ok, maybe not the naked necks! ;P )

I mean seriously, who can have just four chickens! It just can't be done.

and when you go to buy baby chicks in NJ you HAVE to buy a minimum of 6! In towns that only allow 4 what did they want you to do with the other 2????

The eagles are so awesome. My dad lives on the water off Princeton Ave. and for the last few years there was a nesting pair directly across the river from his house. He is retired and has A LOT of time on his hands and volunteers for the EPA (i think that's the organization). They have him sit out and document when they come and go from the nest all day long, every day. This year Osprey have moved onto the nest. He's in his glory. What ever keeps him busy!

I live in Midstreams to all the new Brick people :)
I didn't know eagles were living by Princeton Ave. also. Last year with the Ospreys they had a web cam set up for the ones that were at Cattus Island in Toms River. It was so awesome to watch how the Mom and Dad Osprey tended to the eggs and then watch the baby hatch. Only one hatched. I was going to that web site a few times of day just to watch them.
I didn't realize there was so many people in Brick that have chickens.
In my neighborhood (I live off of Old Hooper) there are 3 other people with chickens.

I think you are right about the turkey vultures.

What kind of rabbits? We might get a lop this time. We are not sure of the exact type we have now (bought her at a pet store-bad idea...she's great but they had no idea about bunnies!)

I will keep an eye out for the eagles

Not sure what type of rabbits they are, but they are 3 sisters, Lena, Issabelle, and Carolyn. I had adopted them when they were aprox 7 months old. (there first 6 months of life were a horror story, it took quite awhile for them to trust us.)

Thank you for the info. Where do you get the VetRx? Do you use a dropper to put it down their throats and is there a truck to get them to keep their mouth open? We are new to the chicken thing :) oh and with the garlic, if I have an allergy to garlic (I get migraines from it...weird, I know), should I not eat her eggs for a couple of days if she lays (she's not right now)?

Sorry for all of the questions. I appreciate the help and suggestions :)

Oh, one more thing...the eggs are safe to eat with the VetRx stuff too, right? She (and the other girls) have Dyramycin (sp?) in the water now for her bubbles and we were told the eggs were safe to eat.
