New Jersey

Yes I still have my boy, for now. He's 17 weeks and just started crowing so his time is limited. He is going back to the guy I got him from, to live there, he has a lot of roosters. I've been waiting since he isn't noisy and I wanted him to get a little bigger so he could stand up for himself. He won't end up on a dinner plate so that makes me happy. I have three more girls to add to the flock in August. They are hatching this week and when she can tell the sex, I will be getting an Americana, a black copper marans and an olive egger. Ten will be my max. For now ;)

10 is your limit huh?

Hahaha!!! The guy you got your rooster from, do you think he would take my two? I'm looking into if my borough allows roosters, but I want a nice one regardless. Mine have been crowing for a few weeks and no complaints yet. Besides, my immediate neighbors all like him. For now anyway!

Salem County is actually SOUTH. We love it down here.

I am absolutely going to check out Jersey Chickens. They have new hatches? About to google. I only have 3 hens right now. I want to add 3 more! But I want babies this time. New experience.

Mingming - would I be able to meet him tomorrow afternoon or Sunday sometime? I have an out of state party on Saturday. My DH says he sounds like quite the gentleman! I told him they would get along wonderful, they are very much alike!!

Sorry, now that you mention it, I do remember Salem being down south, they are always having new hatches and if you call them, they may have some things not listed on their site. I was planning on getting a barred rock from them, and maybe a D'Uccle and something else. 12 is my town limit, and I already have 9. You have never had babies? They are so much fun! You get to watch them learn things, and do their cute chickie antics! I can't wait until they lay. What breeds are you going to get?

Never ever! And I want to raise a few for the experience!
I love Jersey Giants but I am really open to any docile egg layer breed. I read about them every night. I am not set on any breed just yet. I would love to thrown an ornamental in the mix just for fun!!

I love ornamentals! I have a couple of breeds. 1 Silkie, 1 Orpington, 1 Faverolle, 2 Polish, and 4 bantam Easter Eggers. EE's are really fun and come in many colors. I LOVE my Polish though! they are my favorite breed! Can't go wrong with Orps though.

I am leaning toward 2 egg layers and 2 ornamental! <3 I am so excited. Within the next couple weeks I will have babies.

Yeah I know 10, lol. Nice that your neighbors don't mind. I already got the evil eye numerous times about the chickens, but I don't care. I keep my yard cleaner than all of them and the one has a dog that howls and bark all hours. The coop is 100+ feet from anyone's house and it doesn't smell. My little guy hasn't found his true voice yet so as he matures I'm sure he will get louder. The jersey chicken guy I think said he only will take back what he sells, but if you are looking to buy something from him maybe you could ask.

I actually brought them to Agway this evening. My poor husband - as soon as we left i started crying! The girls there were so cute and said that if no one took them they would, but I still felt so bad! It was hard because even though they were too rough with the girls, I had them since they were babies!l But I am sure they will get good homes. Thanks for replying. Oh and you get evil eyes about the chickens? They don't make ANY noise!! Some people just like to complain . . .
