New Jersey

Tomorrow i'm going to pick up our new chicks. I think I'm going to get a polish. They're just so cute! My son is still pretty down about losing his this week so we're getting him another RIR. I'll post pics. I think they're really young too. Every time we've gotten chicks they've been atleast 4weeks. I think these are less than a week.

Anyone know if there's a poultry show in sussex nj? One website said aug and one said in oct. I had just missed the one in april and really want to go.

Send a private message to mame1616. She is very much involved with the Sussex shows and will be able to tell you when the next one will be.

The other neighbors are starting to gander around my property to see what's going on but are pleasantly surprised when a dozen (store purchased but they don't know that) eggs head their way.

When you start giving them "real" eggs they'll figure out what you've been up to!!!

Hi Shadow Rabbit and all who replied,
I have them on a starter/grower so I guess I'll keep them on that til its time for layer feed. They are looking very healthy so far. Thanks for all the good info. IF anyone is interested, I went to Englishtown Agway and they had lots of chickies there. I picked up an Americauna(sp) to join with my two Jersey Giant chicks. I couldn't help myself. Soooo Cute.

Lol, couldn't resist huh! Unfortunely I am the same way. I'm surprised how much I enjoy the chickens. I find taking care of them a nice change from taking care of the kids. I'm going to talk with sunnychooks this week about her leghorns and possibly getting one, maybe two. My husband already said next year he would look into expanding the coop and run (how nice of him) he knows I enjoy them so much. I still have my rooster since he was being a good boy and keeping quit, but this week he has woke me up at about 6AM every day. So I guess we will say goodbye soon. :(

We got two chicks today! They're less than a week old and I had a flash back of bringing twins home from the hospital. i put them down in the backyard and looked at my husband and said "now what?" Except before it was a crib! :) They are the cutest things ever. We went with a RIR and a Polish. I wanted to go to Jersey Chickens again but couldn't get him on the phone and didn't want to make the trip out if he wasn't home. We went somewhere closer and I'm so nervous because he doesn't sex them so it's a gamble. Guess we'll see in a few months. I tried to post pics but I'm having trouble. I think it's cause I'm using a tablet.

I hope they are girls! Polish are very hard to sex. Mine are just turning 9 weeks and I am just figuring out their genders. I might be making a visit to Jersey Chickens soon to replace my males. What did you think of them?
