Hello my name is Carleigh and my husband and I recently bought 2 week old chicks in which are now 5 weeks old! I know I have two assorted Wyandottes and the other two I am unsure. Tonight is their first night outside full time. I have been keeping them out during the day for a week. I live in SW FL so the temps are high 60s low 70s at night. I am also expecting my first baby next week so I wanted to get them outside full time before my c-section. I hope their first night goes well!

15 mins prior to dark they get really loud and chirp and two of them act like they are trying to find their way out of the coop. Is this normal behavior? I just checked on them they aren’t chirping anymore and are laying on the ground.

As long as they are warm, dry and are predator safe, they will do just fine. They are simply exploring their environment. If they seem a bit slow or lethargic in the morning, you might need to warm them up a bit, but I doubt it. Do you have straw/shavings on the ground?
You certainly will have your hands full soon, :)

I do not the ground is just dirt, do I need to get hay? the coop is very spacious and has a little ramp the chickens go up into to lay. They haven’t figured out hot to get on the ramp yet. I have roosting poles they get on during the day but right now they are laying on the ground for the night.

For now, maybe you could put a box of hay where they are sleeping at on the ground. They would be able to go inside of it, and the hay in it would help to keep them warm overnight.
