New member and chicken owner!

Thank you everyone for ALL the advice and tips! I ended up getting 1/2 hardware cloth for the top and bottom, and the fence I have goes 1 foot under the ground. I placed the chicks up in the inclosed part of the coop with hay and pine shavings with the heat lamp on because it is 50 degrees tonight but so far they are doing great! This will be their first night out:woot
What kind of bulb do you have in the heat lamp? Some of them are fire hazards. Reptile ceramic lights are better than the glass lights. Can I make a suggestion? Instead of a heat lamp, try one of these:

Best of luck with your chicks. They are going to love that coop!

I do not the ground is just dirt, do I need to get hay? the coop is very spacious and has a little ramp the chickens go up into to lay. They haven’t figured out hot to get on the ramp yet. I have roosting poles they get on during the day but right now they are laying on the ground for the night.
:welcome :frow Try some treats. To get mine to go up the ramps on the coops that have them on, I give them treats on the ramp and inside the coop in the evening and they get the hang of it and go for the treats and go into the coop for treats and I eventually wean them off of the treats and they are so used to going in the coop they go in and all I have to do it shut the pop doors.

@Caryar18 - Welcome to BYC! :welcome

And welcome to the wonderful world of chicken caretaking! I know these Southern temps are humid and high, but be prepared as we have randomly had frost spells here in AL. Best of luck on your upcoming delivery!

Merry Chickmas and a Quacky New Year
