New Member: Darrell Cook

Hi, Debby: No, I have not built my coop yet. My son and I are partners in this ordeal and we have not yet decided whether we will build one or buy a kit to put one together. Any suggestions?

I'd suggest either building one from scratch or maybe modifying a shed. There are 100's of coops in the Coop section (under the Articles tab) to gather ideas from. You'll want to take into account the number of chickens you want (bigger is better), your climate, your budget, building skill level, etc.

Too many of the pre-built ones are not large enough to hold the number of chickens they advertise and are not well built.

Here's a link to the Coops other members have built:

And here's a link to take you to the Coop/Run forum where you can ask questions:
Coop & Run - Design, Construction, & Maintenance

Sounds like a great father/son project!

YES YES YES YES YES!!!
If you can build, definitely build one! You will always regret buying prefab. Put your money to better use.

Hi, Debby: Thank you so much for the advice. Your suggestions certainly sound wise, especially the part about buying one pre-built.
