New member in sw france

The weather here has been mostly dry, I’m hoping that after a few days of rain and cold next week the GJ will start to think about Christmas - well actually Christmas dinner/lunch to be more precise!

There’s the oysters, foie gras, salmon, capon, cheese and dessert to decide on here and don’t get me started on how many (or how much) for the wines!

Yeah a traveler said he was ok and the most we might be bothered for is a flyer explaining the cause. Our travel advisory was stating to avoid west end of Paris and near arc de triumphe so we worried about how much we would see as the district we are supposed to see is recommended to avoid since the yellow vests were hanging in those areas. Reported the riots went violent Dec 1 & 2 with 130 injured and 3 deaths from falling metal or gate. They have stated has stopped since and was in negotiations with the government to solve the issue of fuel taxes since that was the issue resulting in protesting. We are hoping it is stopped and we will be able to see things even in the west side of Paris by first week of January. They are still encouraging travel to the area so we still intend to go. We were given news sources to look for updates so can stay away from areas if protesters appear again. I’m sure will be fine.
Goodness it sounds like world war z, there was some violence at a couple of demonstrations from infiltrators who are protesting about living expenses not fuel tax which is what 99% of the people there were protesting about. The police took out the infiltrators as they were warned in advance so were on lookout. 1700 were arrested. I am aware that three died (I may be wrong) one person who opened her window shutter to be shot in the eye by a gas canister from the police (really bad timing!). Don’t know how the other two died but from what I have seen on France 24 (tv) and heard at our local cafe it was over before it started. Brad Pitt wins the day !

Mmm, sounds interesting, do they sell anything other than farm hens ? Vorwerk for example ? Are they breeds or mixed breeds ? What conditions are they in ?
Sorry about the questions, Samatan isn’t that far from us really. Not far at all if the hubby drives

I think they have some mixed breeds, nothing terribly exotic though. I bought two marans (nickednamed the Krays) a sweet Sussex and either on Andalusia or a limousine who was lovely but sadly developed cancer. They also sell lots of farm hens in high volume. But there are a few smaller breeders there as well - some taking orders. Samatan is a big Monday market. It has two halls - one is small livestock and the second hall is just for foie gras - serious cash changes hands in the second hall!

Ooooh, sounds wonderful. I can feel a day out coming on. We have been doing the self build for ages now and I feel like I am glued to my computer doing research. Bill is the builder and I negotiate prices and search for tiles, bathrooms and stuff. Exciting at first but when you’ve seen one toilet you’ve seen them all !
Yep, can definitely feel a day out coming on !

Wonder if my friend can dog/cat/chook sit and we could stay the night....

Oh my! Yeah the New York Times and France 24 were the recommendations for updates. 1700 arrested who has the facility for that? Can you imagine intake that day? When the world goes crazy, it really does some days. I think every nation, state, or city has felt some unrest at some time in their life. Shame true challenge for the area. I’m for peace everywhere. We got a few recs for other places to see. We are staying in an Airbnb. Goal is just to relax, enjoy, and eat really good food. Any recommendations that you have for us to see and do would be great! If have any send our way. First trip.

Yellow jackets, gilets jaunes, are out in force around here. With their Christmas trees in place on their little road block sites I don’t think they’re moving out at the moment!
Wow ! Are you close to a city ? There’s not much around here now. Perhaps one roundabout in villeneuve.

My husband would disagree lol on the toilet issue. From trips to Europe we now have two budeigh’s in the house yes with remote control and special lighting for night time trips. All my guests ask can you still just flush it? Yes you can.
