:frow:frow:frowBonjour and welcome! @Debby in france . Where are you located? We are in the Perigord Blanc - between Bergerac and Perigueux. Are the Azurs the ones that lay greeny / bluey eggs (I think saw them listed on Gamme Vert or somewhere)?

Hi PouleChick, we are in Castelmoron Sur lot. Just outside VILLENEUVE - to the south of you. We have lived in France for 12 years but moved from one house in Castelmoron to another in feb. Actually we are living in what will be hubbys workshop while we self build. The workshop is the only bit that won’t have underfloor heating. It’s quite a big area really at 80m2 but with all our furniture, two dogs and three cats it’s very busy. I was ill in feb and so haven’t been helping Bill much and my girls are my sanctuary. I spend a lot of time with them, they help me keep calm and chilled. I love my girls. You are right about the azur. I think she was named by Mr Gamme Vert himself. She is a araucana/Rhodes island Red Cross. Very affectionate and can’t walk without talking we call her Esme. Not many of Gamme Vert hens are thoroughbred but we do have little Annie the powder puff. An araucana. Dylis is a black tail which GV call a RIR. She is a RIR/Sussex cross. Susan was bourght as a Maran but isn’t, she’s a cross of something involving Maran. However I took pity on her as she’s not the prettiest hen ever, cross eyed, cross beaked and with two toes missing. Pepper is a Coucou de Rennes. We lost Ingrid the blonde Leghorn last week to a bird of prey. Very . Next year I will be getting a vorwerk and a braekel. I get two new girls a year. Oh dear I have rambled a bit, sorry I can go on a bit talking about my girls ... bit of an anorak

Hello Debby and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
You have some breeds of I have not heard of before. Could you post some pictures?
Hi Dobielover,Here are my girls although Ingrid the white leghorn was killed by a bird of prey last week.
Ok from the big picture clockwise,
Annie - Araucuana, Pepper - Coucou de Rennes, Ingrid RIP, Susan - Medici (Maranish), Dyliss - Black Tail (RIR/Sussex cross), Esme - Azur (Araucana/RIR) good layer of large blue green eggs.
It is hard to get genuine breeds in this part of France. It is a farming community and hens are for eggs or meat ... that’s it. Next year I will be getting a vorwerk and a braekel sent down from Normandy (800 miles away). Don’t worry special animal freight ... I have made sure they will be as okay as possible.
